Anyone else like me and sick of the bloody Turf Bar being rammed down our throats at every opportunity?

We seem to finally get a true Social Club base (The Mannigham), yet every "function" nowadays is at the Turf Bar?

$50 membership. Pffft. For what - nothing.

Make your mind up Lions - we still don't seem to have a decent, long term base down here.

I think the issue has probably stemmed from the fact that some people may have found getting to the Manningham to be difficult, considering where they live. With the Turf Bar being in the city, it is probably seen as being more central for those who had difficulty attending social functions in the past. I also imagine the club is probably getting a reasonable deal somewhere along the line, in order to pursue this deal.

Likewise, there is no real public transport to the Manningham, meaning you can't really settle in with a couple of drinks, considering you've most likely driven to get there.

With that said though, the Manningham did allow for post-match functions, because of its size (even still, it would be packed out). The Turf Bar is not as suitable in this regard, but still, the club has not really used the Manningham for a "big" event for quite some time (opting for the Victory Room at Docklands, usually, if after a game at that venue).

Having two social venues may be necessary in order to cater for our supporter base (the club would have a good idea of the demographic, geographic location, etc.). With that said, if they use two (or more) venues, they need to ensure that they are all being built up with some consistency in regards to what is being held, and when/where they are being held.

I actually think the Turf Bar does a good job of providing Lions supporters a social venue close to the grounds for after matches, as well as a good viewing environment that is easily accessible. The Manningham, as Stocka has pointed out, struggles for public transport and is not central enough. It also has pokies which is a good enough reason not to visit!

Might even head down to the Turf tomorrow night to watch the game.

well.... lucky u... u have 2 social clubs - we dont really have any - as if u can call the one @ the gabba a social club...

BG & ripper - what was it that Barry called it today (the aussie nash;s nickname with something about the social club @ the end - it was a classic - but i cant remember..)
