Yes I am 100% sure that after 1992 they split the events. Wendy Schaeffer with a broken leg would have won dual gold in 1996 if they didn't change the rules.

The Equestrian events were held at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, United States, (30 miles or 50 km east of Atlanta.)

For the first time in Olympic history, the Three-day Event individual and team events were held as two separate competitions. A rider could compete in both events, provided it was on different horses. This format would continue on to the 2000 Olympics.

Ok looks like in 2004 they changed so that they took the results of the 3 phase of the team event and then added a 4th phase just to calculate an individual winner which means you cant have 2 golds from 1 single event.

2004 rules
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equestrian_at_the_2004_Summer_Olympics_–_Team_eventing
The team eventing event, part of the equestrian program at the 2004 Summer Olympics, was held from the 15–18 August 2004. For the first time since 1992, the team and individual contests ran concurrently. The team event used the results of the first three phases of the individual eventing program to award rankings. A fourth phase (a second jumping round) was included in the individual competition for the first time.

2008 rules

The results of the individual phase were also used in the team eventing event, though that event did not use the second jumping phase.

The results of the team phase were also used in the individual eventing event, though that event added a second jumping phase as a final.

2012 rules
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equestrian_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_–_Individual_eventing
The team and individual eventing competitions used the same scores. Eventing consisted of a dressage test, a cross-country test, and a jumping test. The jumping test had two rounds. After the first jumping round, the teams results were determined. Both jumping rounds counted towards the individual results. Only the top 25 horse and rider pairs (including ties for 25th) after the first jumping round (adding the three components) competed in the second jumping round. However, each nation was limited to a maximum of three pairs qualifying for the second (final) jumping round.[2] The format used in London, was the same as the one used in both Athens and Beijing.

So looks like either the 7 general commentators - not the equestrian guys - over simplified the rules and because I was un aware of the exact nature of the rule changes in 2004 or I misinterpreted it as going back to the 1992 rules in full, when in fact they are very similar, different to the 1996 and 2000 rules, but different enough to the 1992 rules so that you can't have 2 golds from 1 event.

Might have to be a repeat of London with the other water sports, sailing and canoeing coming out and filling some of the gaps left by swimming on the medal table. Rowing will help out with Kim Brennen and one (men's 4s) or maybe two other crews.

Aussie Denny gone from the discus.
2nd throw went into the net.

Probably not the best time for an interview lol
