VOLLEYBALL: The Australian men’s volleyball team has recorded one of the biggest wins in its history, shocking Italy 3-0 in front of a capacity Italian crowd in Jesolo.

It’s the first time the Volleyroos have beaten Italy at any level, and Australia’s first win of the 2015 World League season.

Great win against the world number 4 especially in straight sets away from home.

The hockey qualifying for the mens and womens is on at the moment with the top 3 from each section qualifying for the Olympics.
Kookaburras finished first in their group and as a result will play Ireland on Wednesday, and if they win they'll play either Great Britain or Pakistan, with India Malaysia Belgium and France on the other side of the draw. The Hockeyroos will play Italy tomorrow and if they win will face either Netherlands or India.

From the other section Germany, Argentina and Netherlands have qualified for the men and Great Britain, China and Germany for the women with that section run earlier this month.

Infostrada's June medal table prediction in early June - based on results at world championships and other big meets for each sport. Another one comes out at the end of the week or next week.

NEW ZEALAND LEAPFROG BRAZIL, GREAT BRITAIN

With a projected 18 medals (10 gold, six silver, two bronze), New Zealand has moved into seventh place in the Infostrada Sports' Virtual Medal Table. These 18 medals mean New Zealand is expected to outperform hosts Brazil and record its best performance at the Olympic Games, beating the 13 medals won in 1988 and 2012.

The inclusion of rugby sevens means New Zealand has an excellent chance of reeling in two 'extra' medals compared to previous Olympic participations. Both the women's and men's teams are currently expected to win gold in Rio de Janeiro.

New Zealand's 18 medals are divided over seven disciplines, at least three fewer than any team currently in the top-10 of the Virtual Medal Table. Almost 40% of their medals are in rowing, with four gold and three silver medals expected in this discipline. In the last five Olympics, only Great Britain has collected more rowing medals at a single edition of the Games (nine in 2012).

There is no way GB doesn't finish top 5.
They finish top 5 medals with 46. Like everything it depends how many they convert. This year has several world championships so dont be surprised if GBR win those golds and the 8 becomes 15 by December.

Safwan is a great bloke, but there is no way he's going to get bronze. Fighting a weight category too low.

The Marton's are a much better chance at medals.

I think they will, but 8 golds in cycling is going to be hard to repeat, I think they'll win a few less, didn't end up getting any at the track cycling worlds earlier this year.

Medals by sport in London. They will pick up lots of ones and twos per sport but the cycling, rowing and equestrian domination will drop away, away from home ground advantage. In London the 5th highest meal winner was Germany with 44 but 6th by gold silver bronze standing, then Japan with 38 but 11th and Oz with 35 but 10th.

Infostrada predict the poms will win the following number of medals in their big sports
Athletics 6
Sailing 4
Rowing 7
Cycling 4
Equestrian 6
Boxing 3
Canoeing 1

2 months later 8 has become 10 and 46 becomes 48 and they move up to 7th on golds and stay 5th in total.

Great Britain's 10 gold medals is an increase of two since July's VMT. Nick Thompson is now projected to grab gold ahead of Australia's Tom Burton in Sailing, while Adam Peaty is favourite in the 100m breaststroke instead of Japan's Yasohiro Koseki.

They show the Brits winning 1 gold 2 silver and 1 bronze in swimming but at the world champs, after the new August table, they won 5-1-3. Take out the events that have arent Olympic events and they won 3-1-3.

Just watched Kim Crow win the Singles Scull World Championship by a boat length and a half. Lead from start to finish. Barring injury will be favourite in Rio.

The AOC basically has a watch on Rio athletes.

This page has profile on individuals
http://rio2016.olympics.com.au/team/hopefuls-to-watch

This is the news page which they report on who had one what over the last few days and they always have a Weekend Watch page linked at this page about who will be competing around the globe over the weekend.

And on their twitter site they are tweeting daily results of Olympians/potential Olympians who are competing around the globe

The Aussie rugby sevens team belted Nauru 62-0 this morning in the Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament in Auckland. Next up is the Cook Islands and then Tonga later today. The knockout stages will be played tomorrow and luckily for us we don't have to play New Zealand or Fiji as they have already qualified for the Olympics. Samoa would be our biggest threat.

The winner of this tournament automatically qualifies for the Olympics while second and third place qualify for the final Olympic qualifying tournament next year but given that tournament includes teams from all around the world and it only has one qualifier among 16 teams, we'd much rather qualify tomorrow than rely on the final tournament that is almost a lottery.

The Aussie rugby sevens team also beat Tonga 49-0. Looks like we'll play American Samoa in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Beat American Samoa 52-0 and PNG 36-0.
Will face Tonga in the final after they upset Samoa 41-5 which is a good result for us.
Final is at 4pm AEDT
Can watch on Foxtel or if you don't have Foxtel.

Great result for us considering we beat Tonga 49-0 yesterday. Just one win from an Olympic berth!

50-0 win and Rio qualification with it.
Awesome. That officially means the three nations that have won Olympic rugby gold in the past (France, Australasia and USA) have qualified for Rio. Last time we competed was in 1908 and we won the gold. Although we officially competed as Australasia in 1908, it was actually the Wallabies that played in the rugby competition and no Kiwis were included in the team.

National champion Josh Clarke is on track to become the first Australian man in 12 years to run the 100 metres at the Olympics after recording his first qualifying time of 10.15 seconds at the ACT championships tonight.

The 20-year-old Sydney University student went to Canberra seeking favourable sprinting conditions and found them, improving his personal best by 0.04sec to better the qualifying standard of 10.16sec.

The last Australian to run the 100m at the Olympics was former national champion Josh Ross in Athens in 2004.
