Average players from years gone by

Darren O'Brien, hard at it left footer from West Perth. Was about 28 when Melbourne picked him up, played a couple of seasons, maybe around 20 games?
Was really pleased when he got the opportunity to play at the highest level, was a great player at West Perth, just unfortunate he got his chance about 8 years too late to make a real impact.

Darren cuthbertson. 16 goals in his first 2 games, was tagged after that then just disappeared.
Scotty simister. Nice mark against collingwood on the point post, but failed to convert. See ya Scotty.

I was also a fan of Matthew Collins.

Loved both of em but i would have said they were both the more traditional back pockets, Matty Whelans bumps on James Hird and Luke Ball will forever live in my memory

Heath Neville
Hayden Lamaro
Ivan Bartul
Tom Scully
Phil Read

Glenn Molloy - firey ranga a bit in the Mitch Robinson mould (although probably not as effective and he wasn't a scumbag cos he wore red n blue).

Might as well add in the brothers as well, Cockatoo-Collins, Donald & David and the lesser Viney (Jay) & Stynes (Brian).

Also a Johnny Howat, Greg Doyle & Matthew Mahoney for old times sake.

Sean Charles: feasting on the crumbs of the fabled Jakovich-Lyon-Ox three way. More than happy to get a chopper to training when required.

Scott Chisholm, was ok at the dockers but didn't do a hell of a lot for us.

Which made me think of:

David & Donald Cockatoo-Collins.

Chris Lamb had a bloody decent 02' season. Shame he never quite kicked on though.

Luke Williams took his sweet time getting to 50 games. Almost holds some sort of record for it.

Wasn't 'average' by any stretch, but Peter Walsh definitely played beyond his abilities when he was with us. Always liked that ranga.

Anyone remember Craig Ellis who we traded in from the Bulldogs? Go injured one day and never saw him again.

Peter Vardy didn't play all that many games with us, but he killed it when he did get on the track.

Peter Walsh was a very handy player indeed, never understood why we got rid of him

one word..Godfrey.

No, no, no.......just no!

Calling him average would do an injustice to every other player on this list.

Think he got engaged to an SA girl & was off to live in Adelaide anyway. We just cleared the way for him to play a bit of footy & get a last contract. Was a good soldier for us.

Loved phil read, probably threw more jumper punches than gained possesions but still!

Didn't mind the angry ant either, I think he also did a hamstring out surfing one time.
