I agree that really byrnes, tenace and prismall are enough to give away. Tenace is a high draft pick so he will go somewhere and prismall a certainty to go some where if he wants. I am pretty sure that byrnes would get a game at alot of other clubs. He not the greastest kick or anything but he will give it his best. We also have to remember that harley milburn scarlett mooney will eventually retire. Not now but we can start developing new guys. I think d.johnson might also be worth a trade if we have to give up someone else

We don't. You shouldn't sell anything until it's worth something.

We trade off a top line midfielder, free up some cash, and promote prismal

A little too early to be looking into this but the main reasons for trade would be coz the player wants out (more $$$ or greater opportunities) or due to salary cap reasons.

I'd say option B will cause us the most grief and the trading of players such as (previously mentioned) Hunt, Tenace, Byrnes, DJ, Prismall wouldn't save a great deal of spondoola. Kelly is one who has publically stated that he is prepared to stay for less to be part of a successful era and with Otto signed up already you can bet that he accepted the first or second offer so there's no holding the club to ransom there.

The immediate opportunity to play finals football and be part of a successful team is very underrated and that's why blokes will prefer to stay for less rather than go to the highest bidder and play in struggling teams for the next few years at least.

We have half our list come out of contact every year and so far King & Moloney have been the 2 biggest players to leave our club over the past few years. From my understanding it was King or Blake and the club went for youth which is understandable despite Kingy wanting to stay at the club he loved and Moloney was an integral part in the Ottens deal (pick 12 for him, I know he showed a bit but I still think that's a steal) despite he and the club not wanting to part ways. That shows that players haven't really been shopping themselves around on the open market as yet and I would expect that to continue while we are playing at such a high level.

i just herd on SEN someone said

Hawkins and Prismall and a pick for Brown from Brisbane.

I guess we're lucky that JB wants to play at the cattery for the love of the game coz we sure as hell couldn't pay him anything, let alone the $1Mil + that he'd command in an open market.

In the real world if that trade worked we'd need to shift a few players to come up with the money to afford him and that would destroy the make up of our side.

Wishful thinking - That's SEN.

Anything you hear on SEN is a load of c*ap.

No way will Hawkins be traded. We can't afford JB's salary anyway.

I'd recommend taking a HUGE grain of salt before you believe any of the informed 'rumours' on SEN.

the segment wasn't factual, they asked people to ring in with suggestions as to who they would trade from thier side for JB. So it was just an opinion from a listener. We all know that would never happen.

i forgot to say that it was a listeners idea, I think he said it would not happen but Brown would kick 100 goals at Geelong.

is David Johnson a player that clubs would be after? what position does he play?

Johnson is a hard as nails small defender. He was always picked ahead of Callan when a spot was available. Callan is now playing small defender in an undefeated side (Bullies). Johnson's only fault is he is too keen to go back into packs at times.

I dont think we should trade any of these guys, winning grand finals is not somethign we are going to do every year for the next 10 years. So while were hot lets keep the list together and go for another flag.

Is Joel Corey going to head home at the end of the year? I heard the WCE have their eye on him

I doubt we would go after him. He's a top player, and I'd love to see him in our side, but if we were to go after an established midfielder (and I imagine Corey wouldn't come cheap) our real current deficiency is in polished running midfielders and crumbing small forwards.

We would probably be sniffing around Stokes and Varcoe (no, not Byrnes - sorry) if they were available (which I highly doubt they would be) and obviously would like a Chapman/Bartel/Ablett etc. as anyone would, but can't see us getting heavily involved in trading, unless we go on a 'let's collect the whole set of Selwoods' raid, which would be nice.:)

It's not as though your squad is a galaxy of gifted priority pick superstars, so I hope it stays together as long as possible. :thumbsu:

Yeah the midfield is where games are won and lost now we have the pick of them with Bartel Ablett and Corey. For years the West Coast had the best midfield the game had ever seen and that I had ever seen. They will get up there soon again. Woosha has a great nick for developing young players. Dont worry we had to go through 44 years of heartache for a flag. WCE have played 5 grandfinals in 20 years.

I don't know that the issues with WC are so much midfield issues as forward line issues. A super super midfield for the past few years meant that WC could win games with one of the weakest forward lines in the competition. The midfield now is probably only a player or two off being competitive (although not stellar) but the forward line needs a complete rebuild.
