Who is your tip for the B&F count tonight.

My pick in order is Cameron Ling (by a mile)
Gary Ablett jnr
Matthew Scarlett

Expect Enright & Corey to poll well to.

Scarlo could surprise a few people and actually win it.

Great year Scarlo

I'm tipping a tie between Scarlo and Linger. Gazza to finish second. Smithy and Chappy to fight for 4th and 5th.

1. Scarlett & Ling
2. Ablett
3. Corey
4. Chapman
5. Enright
6. King
7. Harley
8. Sanderson
9. Wojcinski
10. Rooke

Ling would have to start favourite with challenges to come from Scarlett, Chapmsn, Ablett, Corey, Harley and Enright.

1. Cameron Ling
2. Matthew Scarlett

daylight

3. Paul Chapman
4. Gary Ablett

daylight

5. Corey Enright

As I said on the other thread, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Corey or King polled enough votes early to snatch 5th.

Geelong defender Matthew Scarlett has taken out the club’s best-and-fairest award for the 2003 season.

Scarlett streaked away from his team mates to capture his first ‘Carji’ Greeves medal, a final accolade to what has been a stunning season at full-back. He was also named the All-Australian full-back.

The 24-year-old’s list of scalps this year reads like a virtual who’s who of Australian football’s best forwards. Melbourne skipper David Neitz was kept to two goals in round four, Essendon spearhead and multiple Coleman Medallist Matthew Lloyd managed only one in round 13 and St Kilda’s Fraser Gehrig’s late-season purple patch came to a shuddering halt in round 22 with only one major to his name.

Scarlett polled 560 votes, well ahead of deputy vice-captain Cameron Ling (431), who repeated his 2002 finish. Vice-captain Brenton Sanderson (319) was third.

Ling led the club in disposals this year, getting his hands on the footy more than one hundred times more than Geelong’s next best in Corey Enright. The 22-year-old was also the eighth best in the league in terms of disposals this season.

Sanderson’s third-placing is terrific recognition of a wonderful season. The 29-year-old defender played every game this season after calf and ankle injuries cruelled his 2002 campaign and looked to be back to the form that won him a ‘Carji’ Greeves medal in 2001. He led the club in marks this year.

Voting is based on five members of the match committee awarding up to 10 votes to a maximum of eight players.

Geelong coach Mark Thompson not only praised Scarlett’s blanketing abilities, but also his run out of defence.

“Matthew has been fantastic over the past three seasons, but he raised his game to a new level this year,” Mark Thompson said.

“He has always had the ability to limit his opponent and this year he really gave us great drive out of the backline. His confidence just kept on growing and his performances over the course of the season got better and better.”

You_Idiot is going to love this news, Sanderson finishing 3rd. :D

Seriously though, congratulations to Matthew Scarlett... a great season, all-australian and now club best and fairest.

Did anyone hear Scarlett's speech? I was wondering before what kind of speech he delivered.

Yes, there should be a formal investigation, a la Watergate, or any of the several trials of Bill Clinton. :D

But seriously, for as much as Brenton Sanderson has been maligned on this board by myself, Jen and others this season, finishing 3rd in the club's best and fairest count is a good accomplishment.

Indeed... and much deserved, too.

Scarlett's a consummate pro and the best full back in the league, bar none.

Can't wait to see him in the best and fairest count and the International Rules series... and yes, I'm going through footy withdrawl, badly. :D
