In this day and age with videos if the reports were captured on the footage and a mistake was made by the umpire all three would be challenged.

The fact that two out of the three that were reported are taking the prescribed penalty may say something about the incidents.

Ladder starting to take some shape now. Bit different to the log jam at Round 9 from last year.

Of course private. Soft hits that will be dealt with by the trusty tribunal. Embarrassing performance on the ground. Heading to C Grade with a bullet. As per original post.

one was a joke, second was soft and third needs to change their Tuesday night ritual. Good hard game by both sides, Oak just had too much pace, skill under pressure than HR who did have a couple of young kids in/out of the game. Oak won most of the centre clearances but just turned it over across half back which I think is their 'soft belly', just too slow for B Grade.

Very impressed with Barney, seems to have mellowed alot and seems to be teaching rather than yelling. Wanted to catch up with him but boy do they still pack them in after the game at Boss.

If HR need to gauge any discontent, need to head over to the scoreboard and survey their thoughts and comments. wow the amount of stuff being discussed over there was very interesting rather than the swearing stuff heard behind the goals which is to be avoided at all cost especially by children.

The first quarter of the season is now gone and I think the competition looks pretty even (except for HR). Could be some awesome finals and relegation battles looming. For this week:

Beaumaris V St Kevins OB - I think the Sharks will worry St Kevins a bit, but as the day rolls on will fall a touch behind. Can't wait to see SKOBs live as they seem to be in a rich vein of form.
Hampton V St Bernards - St Bernards are still not themselves, but that will be plenty good enough to roll Hampton, who don't look to be up to the grade.
Marcellin V Caulfield - The Eagles have often trouble Caulfield and this trip has not been an enjoyable one is seasons past, but the Eagles are not the same side they once were.
Uni Blacks V Old Brighton - OB must be wondering how they only have 1 win. Unfortunately this won't improve this week. Blacks are looking good and have already played the top 2.
Oakleigh V Old Ivanhoe - Great win for Oakleigh last week, but getting OI on the rebound is tough and the Big O will be hungry for some goals. Could be nasty.

Question of the Week: Is P&D a Mifsud or a Gately?

Good posting, geez there must have been some injuries everywhere last week, I know we got a few.
Great post Keano, I like your style, I agree with them except I think Ivanhoe may struggle after the heavy conditions last week and I think Hampton are playing for their lives so I think they may win.

Hampton

Oakleigh

Re P & D, I would be surprised if it would be a coach of any club.

surprised by HR attack on the umpires after the game and questioning why 3 umpires were needed for the game. If incidents occurred and only one umpire things could have gotten worse. Agree the send offs hurt them but its not the first or last time players will get sent from the ground whether the charge is correct or not. May need to put some cement into the drinks at the presidents lunch to harden the environment up. Oaks perhaps did not do their reputations much good either with their joviality at HR expense.

Maybe that was the umpire that was meant to be at TH King, hey Maxy.

If that was the case with OI wouldn't the same apply for SKOBs? All the signs from HR are of frustration and every week they have been playing for their lives, and it hasn't helped yet!

As for P&D I was meaning the disciple of either Grant Thomas's sidekick or the former Golden Boy of the VAFA.

I'm with BS on this one, those two guys are far too professional - its a rather ludicrous suggestion actually. Next someone will be asserting that Stephen Lawrence is GOI. Really, no. Its time for you to move on from the disappointments of the Finals Series of 2009 and 2010 - looks like the rest of your club has, nicely.

I was referring to which club P&D is really from, not having a go at either Mifsud or Gately.

Can't do much about the last 2 years, or the 100 before that. Only looking one way Shuffler!

Attack is a pretty strong word, CC. What was surprising? That we have parochial supporters who were appalled by decisions at a pivotal time in the match and aired their grievances? There was nothing untoward, other than a lack of respect shown on Umpire Appreciation weekend. We’re very clear about our codes of conduct and are quick to deal with any unsavoury incidents in-house. With that said, there was nothing more than some of our supporters expressing their disappointment on Saturday. Supporters from all clubs search for excuses when they’ve got issues with the standard of umpiring and on the weekend pointing out there may not be a need for 3 was just our way of dealing with frustration. Reality is, I’m sure most clubs would welcome the idea of 3 umpires that are up to the standard.
Time to move on from this and look to next week.

FWIW Keano, I understood what you meant re: Mifsud & Gately. It's quite obvious that whoever is responsible has an affinity with the CGS boys.

Attack may have been a bit harsh, but the language that came with it was incredible, anyway, moving on from that, I also find it incredible that the club is now trying to insinuate something to the VAFA by questioning why 2 District clubs get 3 umpires to control the game and everything that goes on during it.

Is the club stating that the VAFA see district clubs as more feral and incidences are more apparent when they meet hence more umpires are needed? Seems very strange for the club to make those comments as they seem very immature comments bordering on a 'poor loser' mentatilty.

anyway, move on.

good win by the eagles on the road this week, in very blustery conditions down at OB.

May give Caulfield a scare this week

Congrats Pazza, well done.

Ran with three fieldies on Sunday, OT vs Coll, looked hard but couldn't find any ferals lurking around the canteen scoffing wickburgers.

Perhaps some supporters down Hampton way might instead be flattered that their game was considered important enough to get the full complement?

Lucky them

We also had three against the troublesom team Beaumaris at Beaumaris. I think it has to do with the Ground Size.

Not so by the HR President who has now taken his thoughts on this to the local media stating, and I quote "VAFA always sends two district sides three umpires - what sort of message is that?". Nothing to do with ground size there Maxy, I would say giving the impression that VAFA need to send 3 umpires to 2xdistrict games to keep them under control but as we can see non-district sides get 3 umpires on occasions so not sure why Westy would be using this as an excuse or complaint against the VAFA.

also overstated it further by stating one umpire was premier grand final umpire Russell Davidson.

Why take your reasons to the media when all you doing is discrediting the club and VAFA, surely other avenues would have been more considerate.

Perhaps a please explain or fine may be heading down Hampton way.

This 3 umpire thing for District clubs is absolute garage and is either a conspiracy theory or an attempt to deflect blame. We (De La Salle) have had 3 umpires at least twice this year – Uni Blues at Uni and Xavs at Toorak Park. It is decision made based on the size of the ground and availability. We don’t get or need them when we play at home for the very same reason.

...and I think the forum benefits from my unbiased view other than the one you represent MHG (yes, I was right the first time a HR poster, back onto the list)

Not looking for explanations from anyone, just putting up here that the quoted issues Westy had in regard to the 3 umpires only doing District games does not appear correct as old school sides have 3 umpires as well and I think Roosters comments are quite reasonable.

Cheers
