Back to basics. Lower our expectations:

Players need to play where they play best.! Stop putting people out of their comfort zone. Or if you want to do that only have 1 or 2 players doing it not the whole team.

Identify players strengths and give them roles which suit.

Play the young players. Lets see what they've got. I don't need to see what Murphy, Head, Browne, Thorton, Campbell, Gilmore, Peake have got. If they haven't broken into the team over the last 6 years then they are not going to. If they can't sort out their disposal etc after training full-time for 6 years then they should be resigned to the ranks of depth players.

PLAY THE KIDS. Carlton have endured a few years of pain, but now it's paying off. I know we havn't had the same number of no1 draft picks but guys like Waters, De Boer, Buzovac, Broughton, Hill and Suban all need to be given plenty of oportunity to see if they can cut it.

Not too many years ago we had a 'no name back line' we prided ourselves on how stingy and desperate they were. I think the players themselves were proud of their how they were viewed.
Not now though !
We dont even know who our backline is anymore they are all over the place. FFS pick eight or ten blokes tell them they are our backline each week 7 get picked to play, their job is to stop goals, to stop their man, tell them to learn as much about each other as as is possible, then start to function as backline. We leak too many goals.
The whole team should then focus on one thing. Stopping the other team from scoring, nothing else. Once we have that soughted we can look at scoring, bit by bit we might see a team emerge that knows how to function as a team, but FFS leave players in position.
Basic stuff.

Gee you're a hard marker. Peake has been terrific. hasn't missed a shot at goal, hasn't looked like it. Playing with a steely resolve. If everyone was doing the same we'd be top 4.

we do not have the skills to play zone football. We must play man on man accountable football

In no way has Peake been 'terrific'

But he is definitely been in our best 5 players so far, he is contributing when he gets the ball which is far better than 95% of our list.

Picking on Peake is a bit ****ed. At least he's scoring goals and not giving any stupid ones away. Drop Head, Browne, Thornton and Dodd in that order.

Yeah but how about credit where it's due. God knows we have so little to smile about. I have no problem with all the anger that is being vented at those who don't need naming again but it annoys me when people don't give credit to those that have in previous seasons been found wanting but HAVE gone away and done the hard work and HAVE come back with better attitude skills and are playing the game the way we hoped.
Peake is never going to get 35 possessions a match but if he gets it 10 or 15 times and hits a target or kicks a goal very time he does well I for one am happy. How good was his kicking on Sunday, at goal and into the 50? F'kin better than anyone else's. He's been mercilessly bagged on here for poor decision making and skills so give the man his due. He's improved out of sight.

Hes even been running alot straighter absolutely gotta give him credit.
He has lifted while other more talented guys have stagnated and even gone backwards.

I do agree, I thought there was no way he could improve on what he did the last two years. So yes, massive credit, he has improved a lot this year but I wouldn't be happy if this is all he had to offer.

Why? Peake is a cream on top player not an engine room type. If we are winning our share of the contests and he is finishing like he had been we will be golden. 3 goals a game and a few inside 50's that are pinpoint for the forwards to run onto is an excellent return for this type of player. Add a few dashing runs down the ground it's all good.

But he had 10 disposals, 4 of which were errors.

Who on earth would be happy with that?
