Did anyone watch the two Back to the Future movies on last night?

I love the movies, have watched them many times and continue to laugh at a lot of the lines in them.

Funny stuff. After watching last night I will certainly be going out and buying the box set of dvd's.

Even though the 80s-ness of the movies stand out, they are still fantastic movies, and punctuated by excellent performances from all the actors.

Bloody top value DVDs too. Go K-mart, or target, they will generally have it for a few bucks less.

I already have the boxed set on DVD but still watched them on channel 10 last night. The Back To The Future series are one of my all-time favourite movies and the DVD's are really well presented with some good special features including the making of the movies, outakes, deleted scenes, etc etc.

Cheers!!

Great Scott!

Got the DVD's for my B'day which happened to be the same day they screen parts 2 & 3, classics for all time, and my i say time travel has about the same possibilty of occuring as happiness at the Carlton Football Club in 2003!

Channel 10 always shows 2 and 3, but never #1. Why is that? Number one was the best out of the trilogy IMO.

I personally thought two was the best.

But at the same time preferred 1 over 3, so I would have preffered if just 1 + 2 were played.

I thought the first one was the best for originality, but the second one was a good adventure. The third one ranks last, but was still and enjoyable film.

Love the trilogy. Got it on DVD.

But there is a big plot hole in part II. Can anyone explain it?

In Part two, old Biff of 2015 goes back to 1955 and gives a book of sports results to himself which creates an evil 1985. Now, when Doc and Marty go back to 1985, it has turned evil, with Biff corrupt and powerful. Doc then explains that they can't go to 2015 to stop old Biff stealing the time machine, because if they go to the future, it will be the future of the evil 1985 that they currently exist in. They need to go back to 1955 and find out when young Biff got his hands on the book.

Okay no problems there. Fair enough.

BUT, when old Biff gives the book to himself in 1955, old Biff then goes back to 2015 to return the time machine. Now, since he gave the book to himself, he has changed the future, so when he returns to 2015, he should return to an EVIL 2015 where Biff is corrupt and powerful. Instead he returns to the "good" 2015, which doesn't make sense, because when he gave the book to himself he altered the future he was returning to.

Get it? I think it is a gaping plot hole.

I think the biggest one is in III with the railway signal crossing starting up for Doc's train when there aren't any trains due.

Dan, the only way I think that the old Biff could return to the original 2015 is because he got back in the time machine before young biff could use the book. But I can't explain how Marty and the Doc went back to the other 1985. I would have thought they would have travelled back on the same time line that they originally travelled on, if that makes any sense.

Now as for not showing 1, I'm not sure. But I would say the reason they showed 2 and 3 together is if I remember correctly because they are one continuous story, whereas number 1 is kind of offset from that. I think it was explained on the DVD.

I think its funny....you guys trying theorize time travel when probably the greatest minds in the world would find it difficult to grasp it entirely.

ITS A MOVIE FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!

Dan,

You have a very good point there.

And I can't argue with it either, I never really thought of the fact that the old Biff should have returned to the alternate 2015.

Cmon, the alternate 2015 had no reason for Biff to go back to the past in the first place. How do you explain that?

He and the time machine should have vanished as soon as he altered the past, just like the newspapers and photos changing after historical events being changed.

The whole time travel theory that the movies are based on is flawed.

Just a guess - but I think's it because afterwards Doc and Marty go back in time themselves and fix the error - therefore restoring the 2015 back to 'normality' as the old Biff returns.

When old Biff gets out of the car you will notice he is coughing and spluttering and visibly sick. If you watch the deleted scenes for 2 you see that scene continues and Biff acutally fades away! Makes it even more confusing!

I've noticed a bit of a hole in III. Surely the older Doc (in 1885) would have known that Marty was coming to get him, as he helped Marty go back to 1885 in 1955. He says something like "Marty, I gave you explicit intructions not to come and get me". Going by the confusing time travel theory he would have known.....

Anyway, great movies, one of my all-time favs.

Yes, I saw that deleted scene. I take it Biff disrupted the space time continuim thingamajiggy and faded away accordingly, because he altered his own future. But it still doesn't make sense. When old Biff returns to 2015, he had altered the past, so the futire he was returning to should have altered. The fact that Doc and Marty would eventually go and fix the problem, would be irrelevant, because that is on a different time-line.

Gee, I loved BTTF part II, but it had to be the most "plot-filled" move I've ever seen. It was all plot and no characterisation. The thrid chapter focussed more on character and that is why it was easily the best of the series. I love the third instalment.

Something interesting you should know.

If it was possible for a person to travel at the speed of light, you could travel to the future. e.g. if you went at the speed of light for 10 years, when you came back, the world would be 100 or so years older than when you left. If you want the technical details I can get you the name of a book that prooves it.

Whenever you move in fact, the world, around you slows down (relative to you). If you hold a stop watch in your hand and run as fast as you can and count to 10, it will be 10.000000000001 seconds for everyone else, but 10 seconds for you.

So, if you exaggerate it, and move incredibly fast for, say, 10 years on end, it will be 10 years for you, but 20 years for everyone else (depending on your speed)

If you move close to the speed of light, you will have hardly aged, while everyone else will be 50 years older. So, the closer you get to the speed of light, the more time stands still. If you could move at the speed of light, time (relative to you) would stand still.

So, the faster you move, the older all your friends get, relative to you! The moral: Just keep on the move!

There isn't a hole but it is kinda confusing to exaplain but as soon as I think about it, it starts to confuse the hell out of me!

But with the Old Biff returning to 2015 after he gave himself the book, He gets out of the time machine and I think it is the altered 2015 then , because Doc and Marty then get in not long after and go to 1985 which is also altered! But you just couldn't tell the 2015 was altered, coz they didn't want to give it away until they got to the alternate 1985.! That's my theory and it is kinda confusing!

Now that everyone has brought up all these points the movie is suddenly getting a little confusing, lol.

But please keep telling me a little bit more about this time machine business and speed of light etc., it is very interesting.
