I expect that his position with the club is irreparably damaged now and he won't be able to renegotiate a contract with St Kilda - so he will become a Demon with no compensation for the club.

Sad day for Luke and St Kilda :(

"If anyone's not up for the challenge, they can walk in and tell me and I'll move them on."

Let him go Ross.

Lyon said on SEN that the 3 year contract he offered Ball is now off the table.

Agree. He's been a fine servant for your club.

Would have loved him at the Pies but not to be. For 25 and 62 I can understand that, considering 62 was nothing anyway.
I thought there may have been a player we could find to go with our 30 but not to be.

Very glad the Nathan Brown trade didn't eventuate though, he's important to our backline in the future.

He's still going to Colonwood.

Puts a massive price on his head enters the PSD and says only COlon or I wont play etc. Colon will draft him.

Hope so. Don't want him back at all.

Or Melb can match it and he can rebuild that club. That would be good for his karmic soul.

Good result. Hopefully he changes his mind and re-signs or else he can go and play with Melbourne. If Collingwood somehow got him through the draft it would be a disaster.

When Nick Stevens left Port and wanted the Pies but ended up being stuck at carlton, port went on and won the flag without him whilst he has played in 1 final since. This would be a nice outcome.

Wait and see. There have been no signs from the club that there is any bad blood between them ( it has all been assumed here ).
IMO both Ross Lyon and Luke Ball are professionals and will have dealt with each other professionally and will continue to do so.

Dammit, now those deplorable tankers get yet another handout... Bad luck Saints, it sucks when you get screwed over by one of your best players.

St Kilda get more out of Ball going to Melbourne in the PSD than Ball going to Collingwood (Unless they got that Brown and 4th round pick for Ball deal)

We aren't going to be challenging for a flag while St Kilda are and therefore doesn't affect St Kilda's Premiership chances like it would if Ball went to a top 4 team in Collingwood.

Getting nothing for Ball could be a blessing for the Saints in hindsight.

That's how I see it anyway.

The next 48 hours will define Luke Ball's life, not just in football, but in the world as a man and as a human being.

He must re-sign with St. Kilda.

The original offer may be off the table but Lyon said he is welcome at training in order to prove himself. Something will be put to him before he can nominate for either draft. Ball must accept. If he doesn't he will be going to Melbourne in the PSD and while I don't really mind losing him for nothing it is in his best interests (and ours) that Luke take the challange put in front of him by Ross Lyon.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place... and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain't about how hard you hit... It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward... how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying: You ain´t what you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain´t you! You´re better than that!" (Rocky Balboa)

This is my message to you Luke Ball.

Put your nose to the grind stone. Run harder, longer and faster. Push yourself to breaking point. Work with Lyon to better yourself. The game has dealt you a harsh hand in regards to injury but your character and leadership will allow you to punch through the pain.

You spent just about every game in 2004/2005 with your head in bandages because of the sacrifices you made for the club. It may sound like a big ask but we need you to sacrifice again. Don't you dare walk away from the path that has been laid by Harvey, Hudghton, Loewe, Burke, Thompson, Peckett etc. in your search for personal glory.

These men all had their share of personal glory but EVERY SINGLE ONE of them would trade it all to be in the position in which you will find yourself in the coming days. You have the chance to be a part of something amazing with this club but you have to be prepared to EARN IT!!!

Do the right thing Luke. Go out and train with the other young men at St. Kilda who are willing to sacrifice with you.

We believe in you.

Please believe in us.

Us as fans. Us as a club. Us as a brotherhood.

hows that sainter?

(i'm assuming that the position for ball in the club is untenable myself).

It remains to be seen whether Luke will return to the club but what I'm so happy about is that we didn't back down in our negotiations with Collingwood. The easy option with 15 minutes to go would have been to accept a late second round pick.

Don't think the clubs go into trade week like that though, otherwise they would be like, Xavier give us back that leg ligament we fixed.

The only thing we did wrong was to spend so much time negotiating with the cheapskates rather than trying to convince Ball to go to a team without an atrocious trading record

You have to wonder how Ball feels about Collingwood right now.
They must have approached him or led him on somehow, otherwise why was he only interested in going to Collingwood. " Yes Luke you would be an assett to the club here , you would be great , yeah all going to happen Luke , look at the Lexus centre you'll love it"

Then for them not to offer better than a late second round pick

Loving all the Collinwood flogs running around the boards screaming from the roof tops how it's all our fault, all our problem, deferring guilt the first chance they get to proceed folicing with the pixies, tiptoing through the tulips. In the end, Saints wanted to keep Ball, Ball wanted to leave we therefore didn't want to sell him he wanted to sell himself and the onus was bringing us around to wanting to sell him, which didn't happen.

In the end the one who risks losing out is Ball, he turned down an offer after we said to him we need you at the club and saught out, he couldn't get out so now he either has to take a lesser offer than what was originally given, probably lesser game time than last season in the process, or risk the draft. We largely got what we wanted (Lovett and Peake being the names consistently with beign targetted by us) that we're well set for the drafts at this stage.

**** him off to the draft.

It's the Nick Stevens situation all over again. Collingwood are a top 4 side and potential premiership threat and we weren't going to strengthen their list without strengthening our own. Collingwood wouldn't come to the party so Ball gets shafted. So be it.

For all the press Hawthorn got (pick 9 and Williams was hardly unreasonable) Collingwood are clearly the ***** of trade week.

So it would appear the pies figured they could play "hard ball" (lol) with us and much to there and certainly Balls dismay we didn't back down.

Again showing under Ross Lyon why we are becoming a ruthless team!

Yep - Collingwood have said "we really rate you Luke" and then not backed it up in trade week. They are now saying to Ball "You are not worth pick 21 in a weak draft". Bit of a difference.
