it's early days yet... but.. he's looking like a poor man's Rhyce Shaw at the moment.....

it's one thing to kick those 'up and unders'...it's even worse when you miss the target by 10 metres +

second gamer and only decided to become a professional footballer this year. Give him break. He stopped a certain goal in the last when he ran off his man, sprinted 25 meters to create a contest when the essendon player only had to make 10. He is worth keeping.

There are a few players ahead of him that need to be traded/delisted based on this performance.

not saying that he doesn't deserve the break....
i know it's his second game... but AT THE MOMENT... his kicking is a massive liability

I explained to TRS that Barham is a terrible kick, looks like I was right. Some of his turn overs were dreadful to witness. Missing a target by a good 10 metres is inexcusable.

Can't play him at the moment while his kicking is this bad.

He has a bit to work with and a great attitude, but is one of the worst kicks I've seen in a while.

just calling it as it is.... barham can't kick

can see your point of view but just get pissed off when everybody blames the young blokes for loosing when most of the time its the experience blokes who make bigger mistakes and its the call to drop them or they are useless

what on earth are you talking about? he was actually on our list last year.

he has some good qualities, but his kicking is atrocious. IMO this should be the dealbreaker with any player and we shouldnt persist with him until this improves.

i guess the problem is that we lose sight of the negatives when we win (eg people will continually suggest to put games into him while we're winning)... which... as a result.. means that his deficiencies won't be highlighted until we lose...

He was very poor by foot today.

We cannot excuse this fact. I agree with chop_me in the sense that we need to realise the deficiencies now that we are losing, rather than when we are winning and don't notice them because we can still rectify them and teach the young lad.

His attack on the ball and work rate cannot be questioned, however, he does need to work on his kicking.

Wouldn't drop him after 1 game though.

If Toovey can stay in the side for countless games, ditto L. Brown, then Barham deserves another week.

I said it in the thread last week, he is atrocious by foot.

It bemuses me that people say he just needs to work on his kicking, players never seem to be able to improve their kicking if they start off bad kicks, I'd like someone to even name 10 players who have been able to improve their kicking by anything substantial.

We have too many poor kicks in our team already, we don't need more.

Yep, I've been saying this for some time as well.

Kicking, on average, does not improve as players mature. It must be assessed the same way speed or athleticism is.

As for Barham in particular, there was an obvious flaw in his action visible on the YouTube vids before he even got drafted. He was never going to even be a passable kick.

I thought he did OK on Lovett for most of the game today and a decent job on Power last week. His main role is a tagger and like many have said, you can't question his attack on the ball. Maybe a Jobe Watson and Rhys Palmer approach should be taken? i.e. Tell him to handball unless absolutely necessary to kick.

Pretty hard to defend his kicking today. Having said that I think he tried as hard or harder than anyone, and he has the speed/tackling/hardness that a lot of our players lack. I'd still be persisting with him in the seniors, to be honest.

His problem is that he is not balanced when he kicks.

When he slows down and hits it right he is fine.

It's not like Ben Johnson who we knew from day 1 had a wierd kicking action.

The kid can't kick and hasn't been able to since U18's. His kisking is so flawed, he shouldn't have been picked. Both his games have been absolutely representative of his games in the reserves and in 2 years he's shown absolutely no improvement. Having said that, I'll repeat my question from my last two's review - What the hell is the club doing about it? I don't subscribe to the "can't improve a poor kick" theory. In Barhams case I reckon it's relaively simple - just slow down a step and balance up before blazing away. IMO, the club is culpable in this - and a few others!

Sorry fellas, but I called this in a thread about a month back, Barham will not make the grade.

He lacks a brain and he lacks skill.

You can lack one, but you cannot lack both.

Hope he proves me wrong, but at this stage this boy should most definitely be running around in the 2's.

He must make way next week because he is a liability at this time.
