So reading in todays West it looks like Barlow is suffering "soreness" in the leg in which he broke some 18 months ago. They expect him to be rested for the next 3 weeks and hopefully get some game time later in the preseaon.

Not exactly the sort of news we would have wanted with Mundy in serious doubt for round 1. Hopefully it is nothing serious for Barlow.

Unfortunately I'm not sure mick will ever be rid of this soreness, could cut/end his career tragically short

I have not read the article, but could the soreness have anything to do with the rod in his leg? I know the screws holding the rod in can get a bit uncomfortable, or sore if you like. Three weeks sounds a lot for that, so perhaps i'm being a bit hopeful....

Uurrrgghhhh.........

Well, that put a dampener on the morning :(

Must admit that I checked the west early this morning for any reports on LeCras - and stumbled across this.

Very flipping worrying to be honest - Hopefully it's unrelated to the break and is triggered by something else.

I'm not sure I've seen a bloke rally supporters of 16 clubs like Barlow did in 2010.

Mark Harvey may have a lot to answer for

You know it's probably overblown b*****t don't you. The West can't possibly write something negative about the budgies without balancing it out with something negative about Fremantle. He's probably always carried some soreness but it's hardly been worth reporting, until now.

Some comments about Michael Voss in 1999, when he made all Australian team.

Can anyone confirm if he still has the metal rod in his leg?

Coming back from that injury is something else the current Lions coach also ranks right up there with any achievement in his career.

He won All Australian selection in 1999 despite not being able to train throughout the entire season due to the pain. He usually only came good the day before the match.

Voss had a steel rod down his leg and likened the pain from running with it to the vibration you get in your hands when you hit two steel bars together. Every step, every time. While relying on a fitness base built up over years to get him through, Voss said the whole exercise was emotionally draining.

With Barlow, Mundy, Morabito, Suban, having injuries, and Palmer leaving, this is probably why we went for mid/forward flankers in the draft.

Meh, he played 8 games in a row to end last season. He'll be fine once the real stuff starts and the 'cotton glove' approach to the pre-season is ended.

He will need to be managed/monitored through the rest of his career; particularly through the pre-season.

How so? Even if you're desperate to believe unsubstantiated rumours that Harvey over-ruled medical staff and "rushed players back early", you couldn't say that about Barlow. I can distinctly remember calls that Freo were being too cautious with him when they kept delaying his return.

I don't know about you, but I always end up sore after the first competitive hit-out, no matter how hard I've been training prior. All the little niggle areas flare up but they go away and it's back to it after a couple of weeks.

Relax. I thought I had shin splints three weeks ago, now I'm running stronger than ever thanks to the $50 between the cheeks advice. Still run like a duck though. haha.

Soreness happens. He'll be fine.

After Nathan Brown snapped his Tib and Fib he had constant soreness in his leg and was never the same player again. Barlow's second half of the season gave me enough confidence he will remain an elite midfielder (Even if his ball usage is not perfect), but he will have to be managed carefully.

Rightly so, Barlow was the sub in his first game back - unfortunately due to our season of doom - he had to go in early (not the last qtr like most sub's) he had to play way too much for a comeback match - the extra ground time and the fact he played his guts out led to the 2 weeks off after, not because of some "he wasn't ready to comeback! Harvey" notion.

He got better and better in his games at the tail end of last season. There's guys who would have packed up with what recovery is necessary. Barlow has a very determined mindset and an uncanny presence on the field, I have no doubt he'll be solid in 2012.

Look. I think the most important thing is to red card yakka man for a week so we don't have to read lots of posts about his personal shirtiness at having injured players.

Secondly, I'd like to know from Salim/Eshed and the other training watchers how many sessions Barlow has missed. My recollection is that he has been in full training. If so and he has been hammering himself like most players, it might not be so bad.

If he has missed quite a few sessions, it would mean he can't quite get up for the rigours of AFL and could be serious.

For the numbskulls, the first para was a joke.

The work Mick has put in he is entitled to a little soreness
He has not as far as I can recollect missed a session and was always top 3/4 in the runs and completed the 3klm runs no problem
Mick will be on easy st for a couple of weeks and then back into it
The club has said its only minor soreness and there isnt any reason to disbelieve Bond
Training today was of a really high level and the skills were excellent. Fyfe was outstanding .Squad consisted of the Sunday boys plus Mora and Robberton
Mora looks better every time I see him and must be close to joining in the whole session
He did the skill work but didnt get involved in the match sim stuff
Pounded out the laps while the sim work was on
