The word on the street is that Bartel is leaving as he is discontent with things down there at the cattery! What would you guys want from us, given that if he goes preseason draft he will get nabbed by us or carlton anyway!?

Buckly, Tarrant, Clement, Rocca, both your priority picks and Eddie can cut our oranges for 2006, 2007 & 2008.

A couple of points that I would like to make. When Bartel was drafted from the Geelong Falcons I found it strange that he said he was "ok" with being drafted by the cats but was half looking forward to moving to another city to live and play his footy. You would think a young boy from Geelong would have been over the moon about staying in Geelong with his friends and family, but that didn't seem to be the case. When his first contract expired at the end of 2003 he was the last guy to sign up and held out as long as he could (wether that was manager driven, I don't know). Having said that he was on the outer for the best part of 2003 after struggling to come to terms with his role in the cats midfield. Apparently Bomber wasn't happy about his defencive skills. 2004 started off with Bartel in the vfl team, then everything turned for the better about 6 games into the season and he has been a star ever since. Is there trouble between player and coach?? Does Bartel want to link up with his best mate Darren Creswell and the lions (how can it be his best mate having known each other for 10 months?)??. It just seems strange that given the youth of the side and the fact that he is a local boy, that he hangs out when contracts negotiations start.

I like the Jimmy as much as anyone but... if he feels his services have a higher reguard elsewhere then we should do our best to aviod him going into the PSD.He was P8 in the best draft ever, he is now seasoned AFL player who would be "Plug and Play" for any side who picked him up, he has 10 years head of him and can still get better. In real terms he should be worth P1 but we wont get that.Clubs live on hope and the hope of P1 giving them the best player in the league is tangable.
If we could get a very early Pick to replace him long term plus a player to cover his absence short term while the new kid develops I'd say we have come out allright. That being said I hope he stays

3 scenarios

a/ 1 top 5 draft pick
b/ 2 top 20 draft picks
c/ 1 top 10 pick + 1 average player
d/ 1 similar rated player

I would go for option a everytime

Only if he wanted to go would i be looking at doing a deal. Option a is the only option i believe. But i would want to player as well to cover in the short term.

Ie Collingwood, Pick top 5 plus say Ben Johnson

Carlton Pick top 5 plus Houlihan

Hawthorn Pick top 5 plus Tim Clarke

Now i know i am leaving myself wide open for critisism re the players i have chosen but they are only a guide to my point, just off the top of my head, so you can see what i mean.

can go to the blues for their second pick (4) and Brad Fisher.
Not bad, he looks to have come up ok after a knee reco. Pick 4 could be someone like Shannon Hurn who is highly rated.

Imagine the boo if Jimmy left everytime he played Geelong, it would be Colbert-esque.

With that in mind who would come with P5 or P6. I doubt Essendon would give their P7 away, but maybe Richmond with P8 might be willing to deal for Jimmy.

I reckon number 8 is a bit high. Unless 8 plus Mark Coghlan

I know what you mean he was 8 in the best draft ever, this year being a weak draft + 4 years of grooming and swap for 8 is a bit light.
I suppose if Richmond got involved we could just return serve a little, give them verbatum what the gave us "Two top ten picks, nothing less, how you get them thats your problem".
Another alterernative would be take one of the kids that we kindly donated to them last year with Picks12and16. Meyer or Patterson and pick8 would be acceptable Id say.
Nothing like being hoisted on your own petard is there!!

Hey you forgot option e.

e/ psd pick 1 ;)

Doubt it would happen though, just as I doubt you guys would get any of the options you have listed. If he wants to go for $$$ then your going to get less than what he is worth or he will go to us in the PSD.
