Melbourne Star ratings as I watched the whole game last night:
Joe Clarke - 8/10. A fine performance with the bat but dropped a fairly straight forward chance at gully.
Sam Harper- 7/10. Provided good support to Clarke who was smoking them from the other end.
Glenn Maxwell- 8.5/10. Quickfire runs to give the Stars a net run rate boost.
Marcus Stoinis 9/10. The Rig showed how much he wants the title now. Flexing his muscle, Patty Cripps style. It must be a West Australian thing?
Haris Rauf -9/10. Death bowling and surge bowling is on another level. Sure he will get hit once or twice in his spell but there is a better chance of him not going for plenty and picking up wickets in those crucial overs.
Tom Curran -7/10. Not his best game with the ball but did pick up 2 fairly cheap wickets in the end there.
Peter Siddle 8/10. He is rewinding back the years now at 41. One of the commentators said he is 'the curious case of Benjamin Button'. (famous movie)
Hilton Cartwright 5/10- wasnt required with bat or ball but was solid enough in the outfield.
Mitch Swepson 8.5/10- bowled well in tandem with the other bowlers and got a couple of wickets at a low economy. One senses he could be the X-factor for the Stars especially on the home decks and bigger grounds of the MCG come the 2nd half of the tournament.
Campbell Kellaway 5.5/10- wasnt required with bat or ball but did take a catch to dismiss David Warner.
Tom Rogers 6/10- he too wasnt required with bat or ball and took 2 catches in the outfield.
The good thing I notice about the Stars this season is they are willing to give other players a go with the bat, because to be fair they haven't needed too much of their middle order in alot of the games they have dominated this season. Last night they had Maxwell at 3. Other games they promoted T Curran ahead of Rig and Big Show. So there is flexibility and adaptability to the team.
