More clues have been released

The site speculates RHCP, Weezer and Tool. All but Weezer have played before and you could mount a case for each having a 'classic album'.

I hope its Weezer and it could be them playing their classic album. They've talked about playing The Blue Album and Pinkerton at shows and on their US tour they're actually doing it. There is a story on it here: http://www.billboard.com/events/weezer-lines-up-memories-tour-dates-1004116825.story?tag=hpfeed#/events/weezer-lines-up-memories-tour-dates-1004116825.story?tag=hpfeed

I'm hoping Weezer is one of the bands and they're playing Blue :thumbsu:

Weezer would be cool, but as they haven't played the BDO before they won't be doing a full album. Unless the BDO organisers have been telling us lies...

I'll be really surprised (and disappointed - they were shit when they last played the BDO) if it's Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

I think both LCD Soundsystem's said Splendour was their last ever show, hence why I saw them.

Would be extremely good if Foals play, but I dont think there doing festivals

praying foals dont play BDO, would mean i would have to go. i know theyre coming to aus early next year, so hopefully they just do club shows.

although i've heard they're pretty likely to be playing laneway, which would be cool with me.

I'm backing Weezer and Tool. I still don't really understand why a band like RHCP would play BDO when they could sell out somewhere like Etihad on their own and make massive coin in the process

James Murphy said after the Melbourne sideshow he'd be back to Australia at least twice more.

Agree x2. Don't want to have to battle all the flag-draping douches or go down to the Gold Coast.

If Local Natives play it I'll be equally as pissed.

1st announcement:
The 2011 Big Day Out dates have been locked in and the first lot of acts on the bill have been announced.

After kicking off in Auckland as usual, the Big Day Out will circle Australia with shows on these dates:

Sun Jan 23: Gold Coast - Parklands
Wed Jan 26: Sydney - Showground
Sun Jan 30: Melbourne - Flemington Racecourse
Fri Feb 4: Adelaide - Showground
Sun Feb 6: Perth - Claremont Showground

But who's playing?

As expected, there's a big list of international headliners.

TOOL last played the Big Day Out in 2007 while they were touring their album 10,000 Days. The band has taken a long hiatus, setting out on just a handful of tours since. They confirmed this year that they're working hard on their next release, which we can expect in 2011. Who knows what will be in their set at the 2011 Big Day Out?

German industrial metal act RAMMSTEIN haven't played in Australia since touring with the Big Day Out in 2001. They're coming back to showcase their sixth studio album Liebe ist fur alle da which they released last October.

Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees IGGY AND THE STOOGES are playing the festival for the second time and legendary Scottish rockers PRIMAL SCREAM will be doing their third Big Day Out tour, performing their classic 1991 album Screamadelica in full.

Italian house producers BLOODY BEETROOTS were in Australia earlier this year with their Death Crew 77. Fans who missed that tour now get another chance to catch them in duo mode.

When we caught up with them at Splendour LCD SOUNDSYSTEM promised us they'd be back within a year - and they're making good on that promise. Their recent shows have been earning them rave reviews and they’re sure to be a highlight act when they’re here again next January.

EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROES will also return to Australia after a tour earlier this year that showcased their debut album Up From Below and the killer single 'Home'.

M.I.A will play her second run of Big Days Out, giving us the live show that goes with her recent album Maya.

Nick Cave's band GRINDERMAN are also on the line-up. It's only the second time the band has played live in Australia since forming in 2006.

The rest of the impressive cast of international acts are BOOKA SHADE, LUPE FIASCO, THE BLACK KEYS, RATATAT, CSS, DEFTONES, DIE ANTWOORD, ANDREW W.K, VITALIC, THE JIM JONES REVIEW, PLAN B, THE NAKED AND FAMOUS, KIDS OF 88 and CRYSTAL CASTLES (East Coast shows only).

Plus there's a big contingent of Australian artists like BIRDS OF TOKYO, JOHN BUTLER TRIO, ANGUS AND JULIA STONE, CHILDREN COLLIDE, BLISS N ESO, DEAD LETTER CIRCUS, BLUE KING BROWN, GYPSY AND THE CAT, LITTLE RED, PNAU and heaps more.

Pissed off that Crystal Castles is East Coast only.
