Waters has been in deep negotiation with Eagles football management headed by coach John Worsfold, football manager Neale Daniher and senior assistant Peter Sumich in recent days.
Waters met with Worsfold and Daniher again on Tuesday morning when it is understood his appointment was all but confirmed following a vote from players and support staff.
Confirmation and announcement of the appointment could be made before Eagles players break up for the Christmas holiday period.
Appointment of Waters following recommendation from Worsfold and his football department must receive full endorsement from the West Coast board of directors.
It is expected to be confirmed when the Eagles announce what is tipped to be a six-player leadership team.

Hmmm, not sure I'm too enthusiastic about Waters as captain. Granted, we pretty much have no one else suitable, but I just don't like the idea of a leader who can't hit targets well by foot.

congratulations to beau. can't fault his commitment to the contest and is still best 22 at this point. in fact i think he should have a much improved year after a couple of seasons out of the game.

i do seriously hope he has been working on his disposal though. him and everyone else. if he can lift it to the level of 'acceptable' he should captain this team for a few years.

Geez you're tough on your own man. A very tough footballer and quality person on and off the field is Waters. Would be a great choice as captain for West Coast.

hopefully he can improve his disposal and play more within his limitations, because having a captain who constantly butchers the ball will not help our cause.

The lone Eagle that stood up to Barry Hall... A true leader.

Did he?

I though he was out injured with the elbow?

Actually its coming back to me, Beau was playing but he was on the bench at the time Staker got hit, we had a break a couple of minutes later and Beau went straight to Hall and gave him a gob full and got in his face.

Should have been an all in with that, pretty soft from our guys on the field.

Oh, and yes, good choice. Actually tipped him for skipper for 2011 with Glass standing aside in his last year.

Hunter did as well! Admittedly he got sat on his arse when he rushed in but I think he may also have been the first one in.

On the thread, Beau will be a good captain as he has a go and seems to talk well when interviewed. No crap and straight to the point..just like his footy. Not always a good kick but not Robinson Crusoe there.

He definately was... Talking about the Barry Hall king hit. Winky is right though, Hunter did some weak free kick fake I think. (I hope he was faking a free)

Great decision, works hard on and off the field, he's young and will improve heaps and he's absolutely fearless.

Sorry to get off the thread here but we are talking about the Staker incident aren't we? If you look at the situation again, Hunter actually ran in to Hall and copped a straight arm which sat him on his backside..no act there but Hall was just too strong. Beau didn't have a lot of luck either and I think Glass may have even come into the situation. Still, who I am to get in the way of the beginning of a legend.

Waters was the only one who really got in his face, Hunter would have been considered more of a man if he didn't approach Hall.

Perfect choice. Nice guy off the field, absolute bastard on it.

The youngest player in the field in the 2006 grand final. He will be one of the only guys (if not the only one) who will serve as a link between the previous success and our next finals era. He'll set the standard and show just how hard you have to play to achieve things in the AFL.

You're right. I just remember Hunter and Glass being forced into engaging where as Waters was actually making a stand.

In addition Waters was also the one who flattened Buddy Franklin when he paralysed Ben Cousins.

Will be a great leader and i'm sure will provide a lot of crucial "Captain" smothers/bumps/tackles.

So this is Glass's curtain call?

I like the way Glass went about his job as Captain he was always toe to toe with big opponents never giving an inch. His battles over many games with Barry Hall showed him to be the more honourable man and he shut down almost everyone when he was fit. I don't think you need a captain who just comes out swinging.

Also wasn't Buddy's hit on Cousins when Cousins was playing for the Tigers?

Back on topic Waters will be a great captain :)
