I was recently thinking of the tireless hours mods put in on forums such as this one in BigFooty. For the first time it really hit me, the reality of being a mod on a busy forum that is.
It raises many questions like do they get paid for their work on forums that raise a lot of revenue thru advertising? Is it a full or part time job for some people?
If not, how do they juggle the day to day tasks of employment and moderating a forum? Do family commitments still apply? Music, television, film take a backseat whilst attending to online tasks? Is forum moderating a viable career option in this tech age? Undoubtedly the type of careers available are changing dramatically- ie social media/Instagram coordinator (I have friends who make full income doing this). Would I ever be able dedicate all that time for the good of the forum? Maybe if it was something I was so passionate about. Are Social connections in online media stronger than the physical world for the people that take on this position? Are we in an age where various personas for individuals arrive on the form of the online world P1 and real world P2?
There really are so many questions and from a psychological perspective some really interesting studies could (most probably are already) be done on this new world "post 2000" phenomena. If you know of or are studying/researching in this field please let me know as I would like learn more.
