If that was the case, how come so many Collingwood and St.Kilda fans were gutted when their clubs rejected Cousins ?

BTW Is there any difference between Cuz and those players who have an 'alcohol abuse' problem ?

I don't understand why some people are so 'critical' of a young man, whom has an serious illness, and is trying to get his life back on track ?

Who has Cousins actually hurt apart from his family and former teammates etc (some of whom are guilty as well IE Gardiner and Chick etc)
The bloke had an substance abuse addiction, he's not a criminal or a thug FFS.

Chick Gardiner and Cousins... pulling the wool over alot of eyes...

I'm afraid those aging hammies wont stand up - I predict a similar ending to Carey at Adelaide.

I can't believe all the bitterness

Why muppets?
We dont need a druggie.. and someone who is a germ inside a footy club culture...

Thats undisputable...!!!

Cos thats what he is and thats why he is playing for Richmond.. a club starved of success... starved for ideas.. and struggling to find a sponsor....

Remember... this is a club thats just about busting its salary cap apart and doesnt make the eight....

This is a club that had supporters dictate policy.....

And this is a club that would do anything to cutch at straws....

The only muppets are those that took him....

That is how Sydney got their first flag for 70+ yrs - no supporter outcry - no Roos :)

half a million or so West Australians???

Imagine the fallout if he fails again. Imagine the fallout on Richmond's CEO or List Manager if he fails a test - would you take that risk if you were Carlton and had our young list? Are we that close to a Premiership that we'll risk that in the next 1-2 years?

I think Richmond have taken a big gamble. It might pay off for them. I doubt it, but it might, and then Cameron will look like a guru. It it doesnt, you can be sure Wallace will have his fingers pointing everywhere but to him.

It has been reported that the excitement in WA is unbelievable so I think you had better let them talk for themselves

Let's not forget this is a player who has missed most of the last 2 seasons, will be turning 31 midway through next season & has been 'using' for at least part of those 2 years. He is described as a "recovering drug addict", who a few weeks ago attended the funeral of a convicted drug offender. He may play a part in lifting Richmond higher, but it may not be on the AFL ladder.

If I had a friend die I would not be so shallow to worry about what others thought if I wanted to attend his funeral

Cousins is poison.

Smug, conceited, arrogant poison.

He tore down West coast from the inside - and clearly has not changed. There is a very good reason why Collingwood said no after six months of research.

Good luck to the guy - he hasnt done anything to me personally - but id be mortified if carlton went near him with a 10 foot pole. Im confident the tigers will regret this one.

If Collingwood's great decision makers said it was a definite NO - then we should have taken YES to be the right answer :D

Ive seen us do that EIGHT times in my lifetime... not once was Cousins a part of it....

Real LA LA LAND stuff....but i suppose it goes with the Cousins territory doesnt it??

Gee I would have sworn I saw him up there one year

LOL Post of the year right there by five :D :D

Also just on West Aussies (yes I know they are an eccentric lot) Chris Judd this year was the most googled 'person' on the WA goggle search engine this year apparently.

Apparently the jerks from Wet Toast are still obsessed with the great man (esp Big Cox I bet)

Most people wouldn't count drug dealers among their friends. That is part of Cousins' problem. He chooses to associate with the wrong people. It wouldn't surprise me to see him befriend 'Chopper' Read, or even Carl Williams, now that he is going to be living in Melbourne.

Bit rich of us Carlton fans to have a go at Cuz for befriending the gangsters, when the Moran family has a link to the club dating back to the 80's I believe, and earlier this year Nick Stevens was seen at a boxing event with Mick Gatto.

Let's not be too precious M - forget the circumstances and think of the scenario that someone may have been a friend up until recently (yr-) and he died. Q: Do you go to his funeral?

Yeah well the Morans are dead!!! yeah????

And Gatto didnt get Stevo to not help the police in their investigations of a shooting right??

And Stevo never almost died from a drug od...

Youre weird!!!:D

Didn't the Moran family have the 1981 premiership flag for years at their joint,
until somehow Col Kinnear managed to get it back from them a couple of years ago (I recall Jim Wilson wrote a article about it in the Hun about it)

BTW Ben Cousins (as far as we know) has never nearly died from an drug OD either (Chad Fletcher however nearly died from choking from his own vomit from too much piss on a end of season trip to Las Vegas, which people seem to conveniently forget)

There is has been an melbourne underworld/mafia connection to the Carlton FC for many years, and it's naive to deny it otherwise

The only real association the Moran boys had to our club was that their grandfather, Leo Brooks, was a long-time servant of the club. He was the one who arranged for one of the premiership flags to be draped over Mark Moran's coffin (as legend has it). I have read or heard nothing to suggest that the Morans had much to do with our club themselves.

As for Mick Gatto, he is a neighbour of Stevo, that is how Stevo got the tickets to the boxing. Somehow I can't imagine Stevo 'running' with the underworld, he is more inclined to be 'hanging' with some of the Anglo, northern suburbs 'boys' eg Lance Whitnall, who is a good friend of Stevo.

I always disliked his smart-arse swagger but loved the player and will miss seeing possibly the greatest gut-runner of all time.

Sometimes I think one's feelings come down to whether you love Carlton more than football or visa versa

Mods, can we lock this damn thread down now?

I feel dirty just seeing the name Cousins on our board.

We drafted the good Cousins in Yarran, Betts, Stanton and Garlett.

Don't take this the wrong way TG (why would you)
Now TG is definitely somebody who loves Carlton more than football

The Cuzzes!

And if we still weren't sure whether we should have taken Cousins or not:
Today's news hits exactly the point I have been getting at.

This is one arrogant, smug, pollutant here.
I don't care whether he can kick a ball or not.
I am just glad we did not endanger our club by taking this hero.

Not sure why we need to keep talking about a former Eagle, turned Tiger, on the Blues board.

The thread only serves to promote infighting now. Lockdown.
