With the way modern football is played, Ben Johnson has become obsolete. With every team now dropping numbers behind the ball, precision kicking is what is needed. Unfortunately, Johnson can only kick on his left side, and when he does that he gives the ball to much air. He doesn't kick the ball to the advantage of his teammate. Too many times the ball lands on top of the persons head who he is kicking to, and it is of no advantage to the team at all. Thankfully Collingwood have a new breed of players coming through who utilise the ball to benefit the side. If he also has to kick on his right he will turn straight back to his left, and if he then finds himself under pressure, will handball to the first person he sees. This also is usually to someone who is under pressure and it is just bad football. The late great Darren Millane couldn't kick on his opposite side but put the hard yards in to rectify his shortcomings. That is a person who was willing to swallow some pride and realise that he had a fault to his game and rectify it. Johnson has been doing the same mistakes with his disposal for too long now and its about time he actually put the hard yards in on his disposal. As it stands, he is nothing but trade bait.

Your an absolute knob.

Last year he was one of the most effective/dangerous players in terms of how far he carried the ball, how long he kicked it and rarely missed a target.

This year he has been overshadowed a bit because we have had more players stand up and with the introduction of the new kids he doesn't get it as much. But he is still a solid contributor and a very important part to our team.

Now run a long moron.

i've watched ben johnson play numerous games - he's quite underrated. Like travis johnstone, he is great at cherry-picking targets and delivering the ball effectively (their form is another matter)

Check the disposals stats for yesterday, top 3 if I'm not mistaken, played well, one of the players that has been a little quiet recently so I noticed that he was back yesterday, so sorry can't agree with this one. Your DUD claim is busted.

I admit I was keen to have a dig at Hollands skills the other day and I feel some of my points may have been justified, but upon putting a post up for discussion I have learnt a little more. However, you have no clue about Johnson or his importance to Collingwoods structure, and no amount of discussion on this board will temper the ridiculously stupid comments you have made or your insipid excuse for an opinion....I suspect perhaps you are a closet swans supporter living in Sydney...no clue... bandwagon riding....and only the only thing about football you think you understand is the 'Ball' rule, and like the rest of the idiots up here know FA about that either.
Crawl back under your rock...frickin prawn!

The thing is he has rectified his disposal and is a far more damaging kick, he may fluff a few short ones but he is a great long kick into the forward line. 0 clangers yesterday and while his kicking was a bit off it is no problem. Johnson makes up for having no right side by being a great sideways mover and being able to get onto his left side in traffic. He has had a disappointing year, but calling him a dud is absolute idiocy as is to ignore his contribution to the team and his outstanding improvement in recent years.

I thought the school holidays were over??? NO???

I agree that Johnson hasn't had a superb season, however he has still kicked the ball at 75%, better than Swan, Thomas and O'Bree who have all had good seasons.

Any person who posts this kind of rubbish deserves to be shot down.
Benny Johnson has not reached full fitness at all this year, had a limited preparation and is making the most of his late start. He is a contender along with Frazer for the candidacy of future Captain and is part of the fabric of the club.Wont be traded .....rather laughable really.

He's not a dud, but he has had a disappointing year.

Summed up well. I think everyone else is slightly overreacting as PieFight is entitled to his opinion. Ive read a whole lot DUMBER things from the people judging him. And Im not against shopping Johnson around, see what we could possibly get for him.

1, If we can get something, we can take it.

2, If we cant, then at least he understands he needs to lift.

YOUR AN ABSOLUTE w***er...I went to school with Ben and graduated with him, he is a good solid footballer. Quick and hard! His kicking has improved a heap since he was drafted...go blow it out of your ass idiot!

To all you tools out there, the bet is on. Let's have a look at this Saturday and see how he delivers the ball. I bet he'll get under the ball more than anyone else and produce hospital passes. Let's see how many times he turns to his right and delivers a lace out pass. I don't care how hard he runs, or how good he tackles, I'd prefer Leon to get the ball 13 times than Johnson get it 26 times. At least I know when it gets into his hands, he will make a constructive decision and follow through with it. The key to modern football. Trade the useless dud. Even if its for pick 90876, Collingwood would still come out in front.
