In the article with wakes (posted by swanny36) did anyone else notice the last paragraph which he said

"It just reinforced to the whole group that we're not a club about individuals, we're a team. It was incredibly satisfying not having Didak, not having both the Shaws and Benny Johnson not playing, and seeing that no individual is stronger than the team."

I find it very odd that BJ was named in with the carcrashliars (ha-ha)... Just seemed a bit strange to me, as though he has an intra club suspension or something along the lines of that hasnt been shown to the media...

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it and Wakes was referring to the fact last few years he has been a part of the first 22 and is out but still the way I read it he put it down under the category of "no individual stronger than the team"

Thoughts anyone?

yeah that is interesting , maybe it could be his lack of on field performance this year aswell and him not being thrown in to replace dids and the shaws just because hes ben johnson.

its pretty dissapointing with the age he is he cant have more of an impact on games, people get stuck into the likes of thomas and some other young guys when we lose, but they tottaly overlook the likes of johnson who should be more consistent.

hes frustrating , id rather see a cook or stanley or j mac get a game over him atm

He was with them at the Geebung, but insisted he was drinking water.

Being the sober responsible one in the group, you would think he may have put them in a cab or drove Heath's car for him?

Thats of course, if he really was drinking water....

Johnson drinking water? lol. Man BJ has had so many incidents since being at Collingwood. Seriously i love his run and carry but he crucifies it with poor delivery and decison making.
Wouldnt be bothered if he never pulls on the guernsey again.

This bloke has to be on the chopping bloke at season's end.

The younger boys need to be given ample opportunity to succeed him and I think they are slowly putting out the flame on BJ's career at Collingwood.
I'd shop him around and take whatever we can get for him.

As much as it hurts me to say, as Benny has been a favourite of mine in years gone by I do agree. This year he has been extremely outside and hasn't offered the same run, when this happens extra emphasis comes on the fact that he really can't kick. We need to be looking at players who can use the ball better in the role he has been playing.

There is something wrong with that picture isn't there? He stuffed up either way - he was drinking or if he wasn't, he should have had the common sense to make sure what happened didn't.

That coupled with Eddie's attack on him has to have him on shaky ground at season's end.

Totally agree.

Unfairly maligned for most of his Pies career IMO, but this year he is almost a total receiver and what's more, a receiver with questionable disposal - clearly this is not in the team's best interests.

Sad to say, but Benny may be on the way out in order to make room for the likes of John McCarthy, Wellingham and even Barham to develop.

Johnno will be in the side.
His form leading up to his suspension last year was excellent and he played a big part in getting us to the finals.
It is fair to say that the younger blokes would push for his position but they will need to prove themselves as better and more consistent before he will no longer be required. I can't see that happening in the next 3 games.
If and when a young man puts his hand up we will still need Johnno for a while for depth and to cover injuries.

I agree with you - I'd prefer him to stay on for one more year with Holland and Lonie probably done. I just have the feeling he and maybe Rhyce may be used as a scapegoat for the so called drinking culture and we will be forced to hold onto Lonie for one more year as depth/experience.

I have absolutely no qualms if both Rhyce and Johnson weren't at Collingwood next season. I'd prefer Rhyce over Johnson, however, I think the younger guys are beginning to step up and develop. Now we need to get games into them to take the next step.

Lonie is done. Troubled by injury and dropped after his comeback game. Not a good sign for a player whose career is at the crossroads.

I personally think that, if we win his week, the drinking incident we fade far back in the minds of firstly the press and then the club.
It will only reappear if we lose a final.
Then it will be "did collingwood do the right thing?" regarding Shaw and Didak.

I really don't see how Johnson figures in the problem anyway. Several others would be in the gun before him,

He's 27, been dropped from the senior side after an indifferent season in a midfield that needs to be rebuilt, been ridiculed by his President and seems to be a part of Collingwood's drinking culture.

I agree that others should be in the gun before him but things are stacking up against him.

Taz's worst indiscretion when at Collingwood came about in Johno's company.

Johno, I'm not sold either way, it's an interesting one.

Johnson is in trouble if we're judging him by his on field form. He hasn't been the same player for 2 years, for whatever reason, and his off field indiscretions from the past may come back to hurt him as we try to rebuild our midfield. I hope he bounces back from this form slump because he's one of my favourite players to watch when he's up and running.

On the other hand, Holland and Lonie are in a worse position, though. They are one foot out the door and nothing will save them.
