Have been thinking for a while that he may end up playing back from next year. I still think he is a top prospect but his kicking for a forward is a real worry. Many think we need another tall down back and with Dawes and Anthony showing something up forward CHB could be his position. He has great pace, height, awesome extension in his arms and pretty good attack on the footy. Still a bit skinny but I reckon he will fill out pretty well. In terms of his physical attribute there is no reason why he could not become a gun backman. Brown at FB Reid at CHB surrounded by players like harryo, clarke and shaw would be a bloody good prospect I reckon.

Love Ben Reid. Has a massive future. Possibly my favourite player on the list.

His kicking in general play is quite neat he just struggles within goal range, and he needs to feel he belongs at the highest level. When this happens we have a serious player.

And I agree he should be played across half back. Not only will he be able to do the job on a tall player, but he will become quite attacking.

Big big future.

Too early to tell where he'll play, needs a good run of games (maybe even a whole season) before we'll settle him into a position.

May play back in the short term, but that depends on the fitness of Rocca and Rusling, and where Anthony plays.

May even end up playing on the wing, ala Richo, but very few talls play there.

Like Croad and Pavlich, where he plays will largely depend on need, aside from that, it will take time to see where he's best suited. His physical development will be an important factor in the decision as well.

I agree with Didaka and 3rd. His field kicking is not elite but it's good. In the back half there is much less pressure on disposal. I think when he feels like he belongs he will come on in leaps and bounds once he finds his feet.

I also think he will be a very versatile player early on in his career and he will probably end up being player at one end depending on where he is needed most.

Yep. Could be anything, but is better suited to CHB. Could be like Bock but better!

Agree!!!! This young man has a HUGE future. People need to have PATIENCE!!!!!!

I hope the kid has a MASSIVE preseason and is able to hold a spot in the starting 22, whatever end of the ground he plays in. Man i cant wait for 2009!!!

i can see kouta and franklin in this kid... will be very surprised if he doesnt become a fixture in our 22 next year.... i, too, cannot wait for this kid to gain some confidence and win the rising star (is he still eligible?)??

This is a good thing

It seems we have

T.Cloke and Dawes earmarked as Forwards
N.Brown and Harry O as Defenders

JA and Reid hopefully can develop as swingmen.....ie all the talk was of JA becoming Clement-esque yet he has done well up forward.

If Wood comes on we have a very solid spine to build around for the next decade!

it's players like ben reid that make me excited about where our list will be in 2-3 years time. in the player review on the CFC website they said they played him down back in the last VFL game and he showed promise. young talls always take a litte longer to develop and that why i think we should go through the draft and the only player over 25 we should get in is cousins. he can add experience and class to our midfield for the next 2-3 years. we could have an extremely solid spine in a few years time that could involve players like brown, reid, pendles, cloke, anthony, dawes... the future is bright people, hang in there.

I dont think he will be strong enough to be a key defender.

Always seems to lose his feet or get pushed off the ball.

He was not even Close to Fully Developed but Sounds during his Injury put a Tone of Muscle on which will hopefully help with this problem

Yep a wirey kid getting nudged under the flight of the ball and losing his feet to more developed and experinced opponents is not all that uncommon.

I actually think playing KPD for a while or at least learning it will only help him as a player. As a foward it is quiet easy to imagine him having a career of being able depend on leading out to the wings to get kicks. I think he will get a lot of development and learning about body on body contests and it will improve him as a player whether it be foward or back it just adds another level to his game.

19/4/1989

Keep that date in mind when considering this kid.

In two years time he will be 21 and will already have four years experience on the list. I think we should reserve our judgements on this kid until then, because he should be starting to hit his straps like most young kpp prospects.

BTW:

His attributes now are listed as

195 cm
94 kg

Imagine the size of his frame by the time he is 21.

i can't say i like what i've seen from reid...the shot for goal he took against carlton was laughable for a professional footballer and the shot for goal on the run he took against the bulldogs was just as bad. i really hope he becomes a superstar but superstars are normally exceptional users of the ball and he doesnt appear to be one of those.

does anyone remember what happened with ben reid playing so poorly in rd5 against the kangaroos?
also at what point of hte bulldogs game did he injure his knee

Injured against the dogs in the first quater. I think around midway through. The north game he played terribly but he had played the whole of 3 games in the AFL and had missed 2 weeks of footy (VFL) with a hip injury prior to coming in. I think he missed the next couple of VFL games with the same hip injury.

Someone find that photo of Chopper at training during the finals, with his big-arse guns exposed, and everyone will feel a little better about his frame.

Reid has look to have real talent at times but if he can’t a hell of a lot better with his feet he will let us down time and time again. We have to get his kicking right now. I couldn’t stand another one like Tarrant missing crucial shots 9 times out of 10. The 3rd quarter of the 2002 GF still haunts me. Forward or back he has to become a much better kick and quickly. Unfortunately this is a rare phenomina.

I think you will find his field kicking is fine. It's not by any stretch technically correct but he gets it from point a to point b well enough. That said it is not like he takes on nor should he take on precise long pin point passes.

I wouldn't call Buddy Franklin an exceptional user of the ball, but my word hes a superstar.
