Few people still think he can be KPF instead of KPD where he is playing Now.

Started his Career as a KPF but I personally think he struggles as a Forward espically with his Bad Goal Kicking and we don't want any more Bad Kicks for Goals.

Last Season they made him a KPD where he looks the Best at I reckon. Took him most of the VFL Season to get it Down but now he has he looks good at AFL Level with his Athleticism and that long racking Kick from Defense and it's very Accurate.

I think he will Stay a KPD but What do you think?

really? Do we really need a poll to find out what people think he would be better as? Considering the outcome is going to 99.999% in favour of him as a KPD. After his dismal display at forward i doubt many people will see him as a forward. Perhaps if our forward stocks ran dry then we might consider it but an awesome prospect down back. Will be for many years to come.

I think Brown will virtually replace Presti at years end. Is Reid a good enough defender to take the best? Probably not.. The second best?? Well that depends who we are playing. I see him as more a Maxwell/Gilbert hole player. But we already have that... I think we will be in trouble with teams that have 2 star KPF's.. ie. Brisbane, Geelong, St.Kilda (if Kosi ever stands up and Reiwoldt is injury free), Sydney (with bradshaw and goodes fit) and Hawthorn.

Lets hope he bulks up and starts imposing himself :-) As for against the western bulldogs, great game, and was instrumental in forcing them to put Blake in the forward half.

struggled up forward in hios first hand full of games , looks at home down back in his next hand full , pretty easy answer

knowing we possibly have this backline for a long time is awesome

toovey/goldy n brown shaw
harry reid maxwell

I would imagine Reid would make a better forward now that he has bulked up and had more senior experience. Hard to say at this stage where he would be best suited, but for now and the immediate future he is needed down back.

Re: Ben Reid's Long Term AFL Position?

If you consider the ages of 24-29 to be the absolute prime of a footballer's career, here's where the prime years lie for each defender (or possible defender) currently on our list:

Simon Prestigiacomo (193cm, 95kg) 2003-2007 (born 1978)
Nick Maxwell (193cm, 86kg) 2008-2012 (born 1983)
Heath Shaw (184cm, 83kg) 2010-2014 (born 1985)
Harry O'Brien (187cm, 85kg) 2011-2015 (born 1986)
Alan Toovey (189cm, 86kg) 2012-2016 (born 1987)
Simon Buckley (190cm, 90kg) 2012-2016 (born 1987)
Tyson Goldsack (193cm, 87kg) 2012-2016 (born 1987)
Nathan J. Brown (195cm, 97kg) 2013-2017 (born 1988)
Ben Reid (195cm, 93kg) 2014-2018 (born 1989)
Scott Reed (192cm, 81kg) 2015-2019 (born 1990)
Jarrad Blight (189cm, 76kg) 2016-2020 (born 1991)
Tom Hunter (185cm, 80kg) 2016-2020 (born 1991)
Luke Rounds (181cm, 78kg) 2016-2020 (born 1991)
Jack Carter (193cm, 85kg) 2016-2020 (born 1991)

So as you can see, we don't really have much in terms of future genuine key position stocks apart from Reid, Brown and maybe Goldsack (probably needs another 5-10kg of muscle before he could play that role effectively though), so it's IMO essential that we keep grooming Reid as a future CHB. He's playing well now, and is still years away from his prime, so if he continues to develop at the same rate and add another 5kg or so of muscle to his frame, by the time he reaches his prime he should be one of the better key defenders in the league.

Re: Ben Reid's Long Term AFL Position?

His best work will be done in the forward line.

lol just kidding i'm not a fecking ******

CHB in the H. Taylor/Tarrant mould.

Terrific closing speed, penetrating left foot kick, rangy and great athleticism. Will continue to add bulk to his frame which will allow him to play against the monsters consistently be it high up the ground or deep in defence.

People will say that Reid should play forward again, but the reality is that he's early in his development at AFL level, and we won't be stupid enough to screw around with that until he's an established senior player with plenty of experience behind him... if at all.

Plenty of water to go under the bridge.

He may be similar to L.Hansen from the Roos.....looked a bit lost up forward at first, but then found a niche down back....before being swung forward last week.

No point locking players in to specific spots......the important thing is that he is starting to show that he is comfortable at AFL level.

Who knows what our list will be like after the next few trading and drafting seasons.

Perhaps unfairly everytime I think of Reid as a forward I think of that shockingly terrible run up he had. I think he is showing great improvement in the back half and should be able to play on the good players soon, don't think pushing him forward would be good considering we have 3 young KPF (plus the Rus if he can ever play AFL again) and only 2 young KPD.

He should sue West Coast's Josh Kennedy for plagiarism :p

I thought he lead and marked well when played forward, but clearly struggled with kicking for goal. I don't see why, now his confidence has improved significantly, you would completely bar him from a move forward. In my opinion he should have been thrown forward in the Brisbane game.
