Haven't heard anything about his contract negotiations or a possible captaincy role. Anyone know what the go is?

Shouldn't be much of an issue here, just a formality to be completed in terms of contract. If there is one player on our list who is untouchable it would be Ben Rutten, I would expect the Crows to give him basically as much as he wanted for as long as he wanted, and now with a few older blokes leaving that will probably be a fair bit.

Not sure when the captaincy will be announced, out of Goodwin and Rutten at this stage. Contract and captaincy may be related, ie if Rutten is Captain he gets paid more.

I'd guess its because he's going to be captain and the most important player on our list. Hold off negotiations, wait until the club sees how much salary cap space there is and then ask for the maximum possible contract.

This is what I want to happen. If Goodwin is named then VB will surely be our next captain after that.

If they are looking to give him a considerable pay rise they will likely try and stitch up as many of the other contracts before assessing how much they can give him. It is all about squeezing in everyone into the cap.

He's overseas at the moment. He'll probably not sign on until he comes back. He probably didn't re-sign earlier because blokes like Perrie, Mattner, Ricciuto, Bode and Torney used to be on money which now becomes Truck's money.

I would suggest that afccomau is actually having a nice well earned break, like most other club employees at this time of the year.

Sure, it's not official but it makes perfect sense that he's overseas and also waiting for other signings to finish so the club knows how much cap is left to sign him. Are people actually starting to get paranoid by the white noise from Carlton fans?

Even if Truck was looking to go, it's doubtful that Carlton could afford to attract anyone commanding over $250K per year, given that Judd is taking up 25% of their salary cap on his own. I don't think there's any issues with getting the Truck signed for another 3 years.

Personally, I think we should be looking at him as captain now (or another younger player), rather than a 30+ Goodwin. This would signal a change in direction and help to start the new phase of the AFC.

Maybe the club is looking to see who goes in the PSD, so they can then work out if the want to take a player that nominates their salary.

Not worried - just impatient.

Rutten might not be signed until late November. All clubs have a player or two who they don't sign until then, because as others have said, getting the salary cap amounts sorted out and also because of the amount of time the AFL give clubs to sort things out. Player contracts technically end on the 31st October. This list of key dates shows why clubs will wait to sign up some players;

Did anyone see Ben Hudson leaving before it was actually announced?

Sorry but until he signed it will be worse case scenario and he should have been signed before now.

I think if the AFC is truely going down the 'youth road' then Rutten as captain and Reilly and Van Berlo as Vice Captains is a smart move, especially while the likes of Goodwin, Mcleod and Edwards are still around to provide guidence.
