I’ve given him all this way, hoped for the best.
Just doesn’t have what it takes to make the next step

Hates body contact too much
Loses way too many contests. 1v1 his opponent just has to nudge him slightly and he'll go to ground like it's mid summer and theres a hosed down length of black plastic in front of him.

Sometimes they say Be careful what you wish for. Start of the year, everyone was raving on about him; now, the same are turning on him. Perhaps Louie wasn't the problem, and the whole fitness staff is the problem, from the doctor to the masseur. Sometimes a system can fail because of other factors, not just one.

With a litany of severe hamstrings to our top teenage investments
Lalor
Smillie
Armstrong
The kids either have something physically wrong or the program needs to be better adapted to teenagers fresh from school

He should be presenting to the board next week on how he plans to modify next years program

This was always a chance to be an issue, the load at AFL significantly increases, these injuries have happened to players that aren't as physically developed for the highly explosive roles at AFL level, it'll take time unfortunately to gradually expose them to enough load to fortify them for the rigours at this level

To be fair BJ, Armstrong did his landing awkwardly in a marking contest at training. It wasn’t lime he was running or how Lalor did his yesterday.

The fact the older guys aren’t getting hurt, tells me he is doing it right. The young bodies aren’t ready

think we were rats in his experiment this year. we can say his weird running drills work for the senior players really well, but keep the kids away from that shit like the plague.

Sounds plausible has it happened at other clubs ? Lions seem to get really good run from draftees without 10w blocks in the medical room,

This department has been an unmitigated disaster and I wouldn’t be against sacking ea and every one of them , it’s legit worse than ly where bad hammys were on lynch and prestia ,ho hum , what else is new ,,,,this disastrous program has now impacted our teenage recruits in the worst way imaginable, they’re now further from playing large football that at any point since they walked in the door

Hmm that’s plausible case , some would argue the right conditioning would have a spring chicken less likely to sustain car crash type injuries
I’m only a salesman but if I was to review this without a football numbskull cap on I’d suggest the loads are way too onerous for teenagers
How about going forward we stop short of carrying cement bags up sand dunes in pre season training ,,,,,so too speak

But i think that’s why they have taken their time with all the injuries. I heard the club thought Smilie was about 6kg too heavy, so he’s done another mini pre season. Same with Armstrong. There’s no rush at the moment on them.

Yep ,,,, I’d be sending serpell overseas to epl clubs to get a better handle on loading teenage players

Serpell has become the most important man at the club. If he can build injury free bodies for Lawler, Smilie, Gibcus and Horton, that’s 4 elite talents on the park. Nothing more important now than this
So far, he has failed miserably at that. He rehabs players for twice the recommended time only to see them breakdown again a week later.

Yea it’s so disappointing and I’m struggling to find parallels at other clubs , especially with younger players,,, ess prob closest , agree with earlier comment this dept is as pivotal as any in the club , I wonder whether we need more resources

Except for every other team that successfully integrates teenagers into their system

What qualifies you to make that assessment? Are you an expert in sports performance science? Are you somehow inside the club supervising his work?

I've put together a short list of trainers to replace the Serpent. No more hammies will ever be pinged if one of these gals are rubbing them down pre-match
Say no more…

agree Serpell needs to go!

The experienced Serpell was most recently the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Geelong, having joined the Club in November 2021.

Geelong won the 2022 premiership in his first season, with Serpell playing an important off-field role. He has remained at the Cats for the past two seasons.

Before Geelong, Serpell was the Wallabies Athletic Performance Coach, helping Australia’s National Rugby Union team to an international series victory against France.

Serpell also spearheaded the strategic restructure of the NSW Waratahs’ High-Performance Department as their Head of Performance.

A strong data-driven decision-maker, Serpell is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of New England and contributes to internationally peer-reviewed journals in sports science.

Serpell also worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, University of Canberra, and, for seven years, Brumbies Rugby.

Back in 2010, Serpell was the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Port Adelaide in the AFL, which was his first professional sporting role in Australia after he had previously spent two and a half years at Gloucester Rugby in the United Kingdom.

Perhaps he knows more about it than those on BigFooty... Didn't hear anyone at the Cats complaining... The crap that is written on here sometimes...
