Its as simple as bringing in an intelligent former Magpie player to bond with particular players on our list which can encourage them to take their game to another level.

Former Blues champion Greg Williams, known as "Diesel" in his playing days, has been working with Gibbs after taking up an invitation from his former teammate, Carlton coach Brett Ratten early in the season.
While the dual Brownlow medallist has reportedly encouraged captain Chris Judd to be more creative and adventurous, Williams is also behind Gibbs' rapid development, getting him to work harder on the training track.

Why don't the Magpies encorporate a former player of the club, who has great footy nous and have him take 1-2 young players go under his wing, it could possibly take those youngsters to another level and really improve the quality of their footy. Who knows, he might just have the right advice for 1 or 2 older players which could benefit their game as well, as Deisel did for Juddy.

We can throw money around at experienced trainers, try signing some big names and spend big wads of cash on new equipment, but footy is still a hobby, its something you do well when you're enjoying it, so maybe it just comes down to the basic need of someone you look up to or respect to just give you pointers on your game.

It could really make a difference.

I'd have Daicos hanging around the club more often :thumbsu:
Have seen him at Collingwood Games and the guy obviously loves the club.
He could teach some of the players a thing or 2.
Not a bad idea to have some of the other legends coming around and having a word to the players or offering advice.
However, I don't think Mick would appreciate the interference

I hope Mick isn't that kind of person.

We had Len Thompson helping out josh fraser tigh up until his untimely passing

Des Tuddenham helps harry out, harry rates him as one of the reasons he improved so much

Paul Licuria is still at the club and mentors marty especially.

Alan Richardson is a paid coach to do it now.

So just because we dont have happy little articles written about it, it still happens.

spot on... daicos would be awesome... a former great and premiership player... would be a brilliant role for the legend... and in my opinion long overdue.

yeah at east freo we had about 7/8 ex players (well known) who would come down a few times a week and they each had a handful of players they were responsible for
eg personal issues
footy issues
motivational issues
anything really which i thought was very helpful as the coach doesnt have time to cater to everyones needs

I love Daics as much as the next guy, but what's to suggest that he can actually teach a skill that to him was obviously innate?

great stuff opti, i was about to come in and post similar

not to mention gavin brown is our vfl coach

and bryan taylor is our kicking coach

and buckley is our future coach :D:D:D

Micky McGuane would be good..... And from what I saw of the all star game Monkey would be good for the rucks... Dennis Banks also to teach a thing or two........!!!!!!!!!!!

Lou Richards could also come down . Bit of a gimmick at times, I remember reading that Bryce Gibbs was using Fevola as a mentor, Phwoaaaaaaar:D. Just play footy well fellas, instead of worrying about having 13 different mentors. People can only learn so many new things a week.

Daicos would be great, but the guy wants an invitation,by the powers to be at the club, and he wants to be paid.He is very busy these days with his own business.
When the club goes and hires a self confessed druggie like Carey to the club, and hires this guy part time for 100k a year as a forward coach, who basically does nothing because all his time was spent working on fox footy, then of course someone like Daicos wont come, especially for zipp, because,by what the pies have done with Carey was a slap in the face for Daics.
So let's forget about Daicos just coming to the club for zip to hang around and help the players, because Daics would be thinking when he wanted to come the club didn't want him there, becuse they hired Carey instead.
So,footy these days is all about money, not neccesarily loyalties.

I believe Monkey is the ruck coach at Richmond, we have big Darren Flanigan

Pretty sure Monkey still coaches (he certainly still plays) at Woori Yallock, doubtful he'd have the time to do extra work at Richmond.

billy morrison to give hope to the blokes not getting a game, the message: No matter how bad you think you are billy morrison was worse!:D

na i'm all for it, someone like daics. i think buckley will be down in the very near future!
