Milestone delay for Hart

Adelaide defender Ben Hart's club-record 279th AFL match has been delayed for at least two weeks because of a recurrence of a right hamstring strain.

MRI scans have revealed the strain, which forced Hart to sit out the second half of last Sunday's match against Collingwood at Telstra Dome.

He wanted to continue playing but medical staff advised him not to go back on to the field.

Adelaide communications co-ordinator Matthew Robran was quick to stress on Tuesday that Hart's persistent problems with his hamstring were not career-threatening, nor was surgery being contemplated.

"This is just another little hurdle Benny has to overcome, and we're confident he'll be back soon and playing good footy again," Robran said.

"It's a different type of hamstring injury from the one he had last year. It was calcification then and now it's a strain, which needs rest and recuperation."

Hart, who will be 31 in July and is in his 14th AFL season, shares the Crows' regular-season games record (278) with the now-retired Nigel Smart.

while i feel sorry for benny i think its not the worst thing for the club - its gives a youngster (hopefully) two games to havea crack at AFL or a fringe player 2 more games to prove himself

ben isnt going to be playing long term so better we have him on and off during the season and give others a go

by the way truck rutten ? why the H in JC ?

This is not good news for the ben hart, the crows or their supporters.

It is a shame when someone as good and honest as ben Hart is that he should have to endure this.

One sits backs and wonders if someone like ben who is having consistent problems just needs to go out and tear the thing properly so that it can mend or will the crows be tempted to do what collingwood did with buckley and open his leg up and have a propper look.

i hope he doesnt do his hammy getting over the "little hurdle".

anyway, that is bad news for you. despite the apparent no surgery consideration, maybe he needs to go see that dr. dude in perth who did leppitsch's hamstrings a few years back?

Yes very sad, but not totally surprising unfortunately. It just robs us of so much versatility and composure down back. As you say though, it gives someone else a chance. Will Torney come straight back in? Will NVB debut? Will K Massie be thrown a lifeline?

Not exactly sure Cap. It's just a saying that I picked up from my Mum
Perhaps some of our more learned posters could provide the answer?

wow all that reading

That is very sad news. If this is to be the end, I hope he can at least string together a few games this season and give us the chance to see him off properly.

Silver lining is, if Benny is a retirement, along with Clarke and M Stevens, that givesd us 3x retirements and we only have to delist 2 players to get 5 draft picks.

Goody. Who do we choose?

Bad luck Ben, but you are strong enough to keep going.

A true champion.

Bring on Van Berlo.
What he said :)

I would have preferred Hart to play against the paps but now we have a chance to give VB a game and see if he is ready.

Just heard on ten news that Torney has fully recovered from his back injury. As such I would be pretty tempted to play him

Normally I would agree about the great JT but he may be short of a run given he hasn't played since the Sydney practice match and he went off in that before half time IIRC.

Im not a Crows supporter but Ben Hart is a class act and I'll echo the sentiments of others in wishing him the best in a speedy recovery. A champion player, lets hope he can nip this in the bud.

I must admit it seemed fairly obvious that something was not right when he was not on during the second half against Collingwood. The interviews where it was stated he could have come back on if need be pretty much confirmed it for me, the game was tight and in the balance during the second half and he did not come back on signalled to me there were dramas. Really if he was fit there was no more appropriate time to bring him back on.

Maybe a chance to give Scott Stevens a game, who can play in the back half or push forward if need be.

Agree would have been an added bonus to have Torney and Hart on the park together, but mmmmmmmmm hope Hart gets back real soon ;)

I would think that the crows would be delisting a lot more than 2 others

eg bode, ladhams, massie, torney, s stevens,

thats bad news for you guys. i met him ages ago and he gave me his autograph, he was heaps nice so to see someone like this is bad for the crows.

Well you'd think wrong. A lot more than 5 delistings/retirements is crazy talk. Besides, there are a few blokes that will go before some of the guys you've listed there.

I would be tempted to play JT too, depending on how he has been keeping up his fitness levels. Still room to bring in VB too.
