Pretty fair wrap up by Fred above. Particularly the comment about QF being tight on drinks. QF staff (from check in to the actual flight) have that amazing knack of giving you the impression you are wasting their time.

I fly Garuda domestically (all to) regularly. I always thought they were the best of a bad bunch. Time to leave this country me thinks.

Unfortunately in my work, I spend way too much times on planes and not enough time doing other things.

I have flown a fair few airlines.

My favourite would have to be Emirites by a fair way, followed by Singapore. I don't mind Virgin domestic either as they have fun on the flights usually.

Worst ones are Air India and Saudi Arabian Airways (like flying in a smelly bus). Qantas is not far behind.

Interesting...I was lucky to get a free upgrade 1st class from HK to Melb with Qantas in January. I am a Frequent Flyer Gold member with Emirates, Qantas and Singapore.....

I honestly think that 1st class is not worth the extra spend (if i had to pay). The staff were good but still old. The food was nothing better than business class, and the leg room wasnt much different. The bed did lie flat, but it was lumpy at the joints if you know what i mean.

Reason i put Emirates business class as best in the world:

1) The pick you up from home and drop you from your destination airport to your hotel for free in a limo!
2) The free golf bag policy
3) I get free upgrades to first heaps due to being a Gold member i thin. May also be due to the fact that on my FF card, they call me Dr instead of Mr (nice trick if you can get away with it)
4) Many of their planes have built in massagers in the seats
5) Their waiting lounges are the best in the world, and never over crowded
6) The girls are all hot and young and form all over the world
7) Their staff parties in Dubai are insane!

I have flown the thre major Asian Airlines and liked them all.
Thai was good, the food was fantastic on Malaysian ( I had a smoked scallop salad on an economy flight from LAX to KL - Yum) but Singapore were best overall.

QANTAS suck ass domestically.
I always flew Ansett due to family connections but now try and go Virgin as QANTAS are always late.
I have flown 10 times with QF in the last year and they have been late 8 times.
Virgin have similar food (ok, but nothing great), ussually 200 bucks cheqaper and bhave always been on time.

Apparently KLM have bigger economy seats and leg room because of how Dutch people are considered to be so big....anyone flown them and can confirm?

I like Jetstar. QANTAS, I am so sick of the gay stewards. The rolls are good on QANTAS but that is all really. Virgin was okay but I dont like their safety on those planes.

internationally
China Airlines, excellent service, hot towels, your own tv to choose what movies etc. you want to watch. Good food, unless you fly out of Europe. When you fly in and out the asian countries it's fantastic!

European regional
Ryan Air; you get what you pay for 1 UKPOUND flights says it all
EasyJet; the jetstar mentors (uniforms). Better than Ryan Air
Air Berlin; We got a Euro 30 each flight from Copenhagen to Berlin. I liked it, but all the meal they gave you were a pack of cookies even though it was lunch time :( So AB the best I've flown with in Europe

I can't believe that any one thinks Qantas are good. The service is shocking, the hosties are generally haggard middle aged women with far too much make up and an even worse attitude, or 50 year old steamers with gold bracelets/ necklaces
Can't blame the cabin crew for not leaving such a cushy job. Who'd give up a job that pays 65-90K per year, gives you chauffer driven rides from the airport to the Hilton, and all you have to do is point to a few exits and pour some coffee.
Having said that though i swear by Qantas (strictly because of the 'aussie' thing - although that may soon change).

Will be flying Singapore again next week.....haven't flown then for about 4 years so will be interested to see if they still rate highly.

if you are loaded then emerites is the go. in asia (and prob here too) they organise a car to pick you up from the hotel to take you to the airport when you depart. granted this is for business class only.

i love cathay given that i fly with then a few times a year.

had a bad experience with virgin recently as they left my woman's luggage interstate. no compensation offered or given as stipulated in the T&C's. i blasted them and kept saying "I know you're a budget airline". in the end i gave up. dont really wanna fly with them again.

Dude, as if cabin crew are on any where near 65 - 90 grand!!

They sure are.

We have family in the business.
One is a long haul pilot, the other is a trolly dolly.

yep and plus the perks shortly after retiring from the industry. my old man was a pilot for cathay years ago. for a while after he left he paid 30% of the fare to fly wherever with the airline.
