I think Maxwell has to be one of the best out there, his leadership is fantastic, only problem is he has been horribly out of form and been carrying injury this year.

I would have to go for Brown as he is such an inspirational captain and provides great leadership while still being one of the best players in the comp.

It's so hard to judge what a good captain is. I personally think Richie Vandenburg was one of the most best and most important captains Hawthorn has had. Far from our best player, but set a strong example in training, his commitment on match days and his general demeanour around the club was simply outstanding. Not sure I'd truly no what most of the guys are like behind closed doors.

I think a guy like Chris Newman is like that for the Tigers.

From a onfield/playing point of View, Hodge, Judd, Ablett and Brown (not in any particular order) would be my picks. Ablett has gone from zero to hero in my eyes as a captain this year. Not only been at possibly a higher level than previous years, he has also helped out many guys on the field whilst doing it. Been very impressed.

McVeigh and Goodes are co captains, but i think if you were to choose one it would be Goodes.

i voted Ablett as he always leads the team in terms of setting up play and getting possesion and has also had to be a teacher and mentor for the young Gold Coast side.

J Brown, He is the perfect captain, Huge presence, Leads by example, backs all his team mates in and a fantastic player.

Let's be honest, the general public (us) know next to nothing about each captains work ethic off the field and how they are perceived at their football clubs. All we can really judge is their impact on the field.

Gary Ablett carries his side more than most, he dominates with next to no support. Steps up when needed. Other captains do as well, but Ablett did it whilst being a babysitter for the young kids.

+1 G Ablett. Love Jobe as a leader but Ablett this year has almost redefined the role.

Brown his presence on the field lifts our boys a lot, he has courage strength leadership and he leads by example one goal from Browny in the last quarter in a close game and you are screwed. because we lift that much.

Great Captain, wish Essendon had him.
Good thing for Essendon is that we have his clone.

I'm of the opinion captains should provide on field and training examples to the youth of the club.

I bet I'll mention Nick Riewoldt and get a million pictures of the Shaw smother, but Riewoldt attitude to training and preparation mirrors Robert Harvey's who was captain of the club in his first year at St Kilda, and now I bet Harvey's attitude is passing onto the youth of the club again into players like Jack Steven and Tom Ledger (To be fair however Jack Steven was in the locker next to Harves so he learnt first hand as well)

On that point, I voted for Ablett. His year at the Gold Coast has been great and you couldn't set a better example for the vast amounts of youth at that club.
