The title says it all these Midfields all helped there team amke it into at least 2 premierships.

Brisbane: 4 Grand Finals,3 won 2001,2002,2003 2004(Lost)
Michael Voss,Jason Akermanis,Simon Black

West Coast: 2 Grand Finals,1 won 2005(lost),2006
Ben Cousins,Chris Judd,Daniel Kerr

Geelong: 2 Grand Finals,1 won 2007,2008(lost)
Gary Ablett,James Bartel,Joel Corey

So which is the best?

Forget Nigel Lappin? And Selwood deserves to me mentioned alongiside the other 3 Cats players.

I have them as follows:

1. West Coast - Judd the best player of the decade when at his best at West Coast. Cousins only fractionally behind him, and Kerr was A grade when fit and in form. Also, won a flag on their own, without the help of a backline or forward line, ala Brisbane and to a lesser extent Geelong

2. Brisbane - The best in terms of quantity, with 4 A+ graders who were very even in terms of talent IMO, and one a great leader. 3 premierships on the CV, but an elite backline and forward line helped in that regard, and is the reason why I don't rate them above the Eagles.

3. Geelong - relative to the above, Geelong's midfield struggles a bit after Ablett and Bartel. Corey an A grade extractor and runner, but not classy like the fore mentioned. Selwood probably not old enough to really enter into this debate as a legitimate arguement why Geelong should be higher.

Either WC or Brisbane.

A few people forget just how good Judd, Kerr & Cuz were together. ****ing unstoppable.

I miss that :(

West Coast get the nod. :thumbsu:

But i think the poll needs to list a larger group of midfielders, to reflect the depth of each side.

eg. Brisbane 3 + Lappin, Notting, Hart. the Scotts,

Geelong's depth seems to run deeper, with Ling, Selwood, Kelly, Chapman and Enright all rotated through the midfield.

and possibly also the ruckmen, we all know how good Cox can be on his day, but did he have a greater impact on big games than the finals specialist himself, Clark Keating?

West Coast for me.

Judd in his prime, when there was all the debate about being the greatest midfielder of all time.

He, with Cousins and Kerr were all clear top 5 mids on an annual basis during this period. Remarkable.

I voted Brisbane but the West Coast one wasn't far behind at all, just thinking about it was scary. Brisbane gets my nod though as they won 3 flags.

It was a sarcastic post you freak! The Voss > Hird point is questionable
The rest I agree with

Sorry. I thought you might just be some Hodgepodge wannabe.

Call me biased but I think the West Coast Boys edge out the others. Espeically when you have to consider Cox as a rucking midfielder.

Brisbane and Geelong proberly had greater depth but with Cox, Cousins, Judd and Kerr as a starting 4, West Coast come out in front.

I picked West Coast - closely followed by Brisbane.

I miss the exciting football they produced week in, week out :(

JB - "First bounce of the day, straight up in the air - Cox taps it down to Judd who's streaming past, Judd gathers, shrugs off the tackle from Black, bursts through the rest of the pack and passes off to Kerr quickly. Kerr completes the 1-2 and Juddy has put it right on the chest of "The Big Q" - 35m out! What a play from the West Coast Eagles!"
BT - "Well, that's just regular stuff from the Eagles midfield, isn't it JB. What an sensational effort from the likes of big Cox, Judd and Kerr, but you must give credit to Cousins, who although didn't get the ball, provided at least 4 shepherds just to protect his team-mates. He's a star, that man."

Then Judd leaves to Carlton. Cousins eventually goes to Richmond. It was like The Beatles had split.

So which is the best?

With just those three players from each and as much as I like the WC group individually IMO Brisbane easily.

Voss, tough inside and out, could grab a game by the scruff of the neck and drag his team over the line. Very strong overhead, booming kick before his knee/s gave out, just an allround tough bastard.
Akermanis as lethal footballer as I've ever seen off either side from outside 50m and I remember them back to Matthews from the mid 70s onwards.
Black just classy, tough and unrelenting. If anyone wants to see one of the best individual performances ever, do yourself a favour and watch the '03 Premiership, he ran virtually unchanged all day on the ball and slaughtered them. Aker wasn't far behind him with his 5 or 6 goals.

Eagles, not to mention Embley, Fletcher, COXY, Braun. Selwood and Waters were great when they played midfield too.

Well i was just doing the big three from each club.
But you can still give credit to the likes of Lappin,Fletcher and Ling...or Selwood....and Hart...

UMM
you all forgot about Richmonds Midfield

Kane Johnson
Greg Tivendale
JON
Chris Hyde
all kicking long down to the big Shultz
the elite Backline of
Darren Gaspar
Joel Bowden
Mark Chaffey
Ben Holland

It's a bit of a toss of the coin for me...both were outstanding and were great to watch but the Eagles get my vote :thumbsu:

considering when west coast's and brisbane's midfields clashed from about 2002-2005 (i'll exclude 06 as voss was clearly not the player he used to be), west coast won 6/7 (inc 3 at the gabba). you'd have to say that the attacking cabilities of west coast midfield was superior to that of brisbanes.

judd, cousins and kerr in one team. something like that will just about never happen again.

At their best -

1. Judd
2. Ablett
3. Voss
4. Cousins
5. Black
6. Akermanis
7. Bartel
8. Kerr
9. Corey

Id take WCE just ahead of Brisbane.

2. Cousins
3. Ablett
4. Black
5. Judd
6. Akermanis
7. Bartel
8. Kerr
9. Corey
