Yeah.. some numbers were really hard calls eh?!! Makes you proud to be Essendon though.. reading that list.. some bloody great names..Sean Wellman ahead of Anthony Daniher for #6, just.
Put it this way.. we should ensure that we keep the #5 for really special players...TD is arguably our greatest Captain of all time.
So are we saying Hardwick's four years with #11 are enough?
More than Zaka's six years? Or Peverill's seven?
The difficulty with this, aside from the real stand out names, a lot of very good old time players will be lost in a debate like this. As in, obviously we remember Coleman and Hutchison from the 1940s, but who is to say there isn't a very good #12 who played in the 1940s and 1950s that we forget about simply because they've been largely lost in the passage of time?
Hirdy was a pretty darn good captain as well.TD is arguably our greatest Captain of all time.
Reynolds would be our greatest of all time.
I don't have an opinion one way or another.4 years of Hardwick better than Zaharakis. Please.
It's irrelevant as John Birt would be ahead of both according to those who have seen him.4 years of Hardwick better than Zaharakis. Please.
Did you know him well? It's irrelevant as John Birt would be ahead of both according to those who have seen him.

Stephen Carey played in the 85 flag
Hawker is the best of these 3 quite comfortably. He was a very classy, skilful player. His years between 81-87 were sublime. Made things look easy, had more time than most others around. Almost laconic in style with his socks rolled down and was probably in our best few kicks to a leading player in that era. Have a look at some of Aussie80s clips on YouTube for early 80s highlights and he pops up regularly in them.I would definitely not have McPhee above Blake. Hawker I am not sure about, didn't see him play.
