I can't see Walsh ever being the best player in the AFL, let alone in 2022. He is too small and doesn't win enough contested ball. Being a great endurance runner is obviously a strength but this isn't the 90's anymore and is less important with rotations and zone defensive structures.
19th in the league last year for contested possessions (and the most for Carlton) which is a pretty good effort for a 3rd year player. While his endurance is his strength, it's not like he's incapable of winning the contested ball.

In regards to his size, he's taller than Selwood, Libba, Parker, Mitchell, Laird, Miller, Boak etc. and only 2cm shorter than Petracca. He's not as naturally big as someone like Petracca but he's still just a kid dominating without support. I don't think he'll be the best player in 2022 but I don't see why he can't be in the future.

Despite the valiant efforts over the past few pages it’s still not Oliver or Walsh.

It's fun to argue so you can't blame anyone for doing it. It is Oliver though. But I'd still take Petracca first in a choose your team scenario.

Petracca, Bont and Oliver and it’s very hard to split them. Petracca’s best performance was the 2021 GF so he could still be going up if he brings that new level more often.

He’s still only 21, and above average or elite in most key stats.

Could be the best player within 18 months.

Those saying Martin is the best going into 2022, he was the fittest he had ever been in footy (that was from him mouth pre season in 2021) and he had 3 maybe 4 good games out of 18 in 2021 season. Other tigers like Bakes, Shorty, Broad, Bolton, Graham killed Dusty’s “greatness” as he couldn’t match them.

He will have another 3-4 good games (the expected blues, hawks, north, bombers) but he won’t be near the “best player of 2022” when you have the likes of Bont, Trac, Greene, Oliver, Walsh as examples who will be dominate all year for majority of the matches including finals

Lol how is Sam Walsh even in the conversation for best player.

Is Oliver a new weird way of describing Ollie Wines? It can't be Clayton Oliver surely? Not even the best player on his team.

For 22 the best player in the league will be Walsh followed by Petracca.

It's Adam Saad, ya pelicans.

Neale next in line. Petracca, Brayshaw, Walsh after that. Cripps was leading this Rounds 1-10 100% though.
Round 1-8. he went downhill big time after that. And in the first 8 rounds, 1 of them he got injured so he's only played 7 good games. Carl fans were getting way ahead of themselves imo. He's lost all of his speed again and he's back to 2020/21 Cripps.

Jeremy Cameron is playing some terrific footy this year.
