What are peoples favourite footballer commentators quotes that thye have heard, I will always love Dennis Cometti's call of Peter Wilson being like a cork in the ocean, when he kicked that goal over his head in the 92 grand final, any others?

1994 Qualifying Final,,,Footscray v Geelong, night game. Billy Brownless kicks the winning goal after the siren..Dont know who the Ch7 commentator was at the time, but he says " the monkeys off ur back Billyyyyy " .....the call still haunts me

Think it was Gerard Healy.

As for mine, as Mitch Hahn was lining up for goal against Essendon in Round 5, Tim Lane said 'Maybe he can't get the taste out of his head'

ray jordans call of the reserves grade match where the collingwood player got 10 years for an incident with an umpire then lashed out at anything in his path

Bruce McAvaney commentating on an SANFL game: Sturt v Norwood, 1983. 24 minutes into the last quarter, Sturt are 5 goals down.

"as good as the Double Blues are, they can't win from here"

Sturt won by 7 points.

Although I'm growing tired of seeing his face everywhere, I'll never forget Eddie McGuire's call of the 99 Prelim Final between Essendon and Carlton.
For the last 15 seconds after Brown had just tackled Wallis, Eddie was shouting at the top of his lungs :
"CARLTON ARE INTO THE GRAND FINAL !
CARLTON ARE INTO THE GRAND FINAL !
CARLTON ARE INTO THE GRAND FINAL !"
It was pretty awesome stuff. Great climax.
Of course, what he should have been shouting was :
"CARLTON HAVE JUST PLAYED THEIR GRAND FINAL !
CARLTON HAVE JUST PLAYED THEIR GRAND FINAL !
CARLTON HAVE JUST PLAYED THEIR GRAND FINAL !"
cos we spanked them the week after ! :D

Those reserves matches were classics, Don Scott and Peter McKenna, I think, where always at each other. It seemed pretty rare when they would actually call the game.

Ess v Geel 93...

Paul Salmon leads out. The ball bounces in front of him and does and off break. He manages to fully stretch out (1) and control the ball. He then wheels around on his right boot evading the Geelong tackler (2) and snaps it rround his body for a great goal (3)

The commentary goes like this:

(1) Salmon, does well..
(2) Does very well
(3) Does extremely well

as his voice gets higher and more excited..

Great Stuff!

He ended up playing in the Diamond Valley league after that.

"Mmmmmm...the boy's done well!"

"Slug" Jordan summed up John Burke's actions with the following:

Sandy Roberts: Well, and now the trainer's on the field trying to get him off, which I think you have to do..

Slug: Ohh, he's just given him a whack too... Yeah, the boy's done well.

30 years they gave him.

Rex Hunt, in any game that Gary Ablett was playing, the ball would go down into the 50, it would head towards ablett, as soon as he went up for the mark you would hear old rexy scream out "YAAAAAAAAABBBBBLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!" Classic stuff

Which club was on the receiving end?

The Blues I think. That was the year they were heading for their first wooden spoon before they strung a couple of wins together late in the season to avoid the humiliation. This was the same season where a Kangas supporter ran out during a game at Optus Oval and gave Silvagni (I think) a wooden spoon :)

1966 grand final last seconds of the game l think it was Butch Gale HIT THE BOUNDARY LINE a classic.

Sandy Roberts in a game between Geel and Coll at a very muddy Mcg Ablett gets the ball at chfwd breaks a couple of tackles and bangs it through from about 50 Sandy comes out with WHAT MORE CAN YOU SAY.

Hey Rod I that was Sandy Roberts you're talking about in the '99 Prelim. 7 still had the rights then.
YOur right though it was a good call- probably the only one Sandy ever made. Pretty easy situation to say something memorable about though.

Best quote for me this year was Michael Christian in ADE vs WCE elimination final:
'Burns ... ooooaaaahhh Burns ... Magical stuuuuffff ... Outside of the boot ... OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! ... he's missed

sandy's call of michael long's goal in the 93 grand final. excellent!

also, when darren gasrper had a shot that hit the post, commetti said: 'gaspar, the unfriendly post' or something like that...classic!!

I have seen that footage on quite a few highlights video's...classic stuff that one...always makes me laugh..

GO ROOS!!!

I think Commetti's, "the goal squares full of bears, looks like we've got our selves a convoy - apologies to C W McCall", is right up there.

Brisbane Bears mid 90's
