Eric Hipwood- love the look of this kid. Apparently very happy at Lions- they'll keep a beauty.
Lynch is fantastic- think he's going to Pieland.
Cameron seems to have plateaued a bit- started with amazing potential- still, I'd have him at Geelong in a heartbeat.
Patton and Boyd are a bit similar- again, either would be welcomed by me.
Wouldn't say no to Moore either.

Oh man, if we had any of those guys we’d be looking at flags (plural)! That’s why I was so disappointed at missing stringer.

From an outsiders point of view I can see Tim Kelly being a massive pleasant surprise after watching him a decent amount last year. Also, I remember thinking Blicavs looking good as a forward against us last year. I could see him and Menegola playing across half forward because with their ridiculously good endurance running even if they arent receiving the ball they should be able to create space for those behind them. Menegola was a key forward in his juniur days and kicked five goals in a Colts Grand Final the year he was first drafted. Crameri could very well be a good pick-up and he too could play a hard running half forward role. I though L.Fogarty would go higher in the draft as he is all class, so Ive included him as well. Thurlow should a lot better if he can get a decent run with injury and build confidence. Shapes as the most likely Mackie replacement from what I can tell.
I also think Cam Guthrie is capable of much more than what he displayed last year and that his pace could be important on a wing.

My best 22:
B: Stewart Taylor Bews
HB: Thuoy Henderson Kolo
C: T.Kelly Duncan C.Guthrie
HF: Cockatoo Blicavs Menegola
FF: Dangerfield Hawkins Partiff
R: Smith J.Selwood, Ablett
I/C S.Selwood, Fogarty, Crameri, Thurlow

Thanks for the contribution, it’s interesting to get an outsiders perspective and a knowledgeable one at that. One thing I can take from this thread is that there are a fair few ok players (both prospects and guys who have played a fair bit of senior footy recently) missing out on people’s best 22s. That’s a good sign.

Best 22:

B: Jed Bews, Harry Taylor, Tom Stewart

HB: Zach Tuohy, Lachie Henderson, Jake Kolodjashnij

C: Mitch Duncan, Joel Selwood, Sam Menegola

HF: Cam Guthrie, Stewart Crameri, Brandan Parfitt

F: Nakia Cockatoo, Tom Hawkins, Dan Menzel

FOLL: Zac Smith, Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Ablett

INT: Scott Selwood, Lincoln McCarthy, James Parsons, Mark Blicavs

Pretty close.

Not sure Crameri is a walk-up start. I’d have Hawkins at CHF and Dangerfield in the qoalsquare as plan A.

I’d be tempted to get Kelly in there and Gregson will be too if fit.

Yeah with ablett in the team, guys like menegola and Sselwood now providing senior midfield backup, and hopefully cockatoo etc breaking into the midfield more often, I think dangerfield to full forward might balance the team out better than using him predominantly as a midfielder.

Hey guys just wondering how you see Geelong's midfield will operate next year?

So you guys have
1. Dangerfield
2. J Selwood
3. Ablett
4. Duncan
5. Menegola
6. S Selwood

As your main midfielders.

Personally I see them playing as

Dangerfield-50% mid & 50% forward
Selwood-80% mid & 20% forward
Ablett-90% mid & 10% forward
Duncan-90% mid & 10% forward/defence
Menegola-25% mid & 75% forward
S Selwood-70% mid & 30% forward

Would this be right? Out of all them, Danger is clearly the best player as a forward. Selwood and Ablett by reports are touted as your main almost permanent midfielders, with S Selwood and Duncan not having a good enough 2nd position they will probably fill in the gaps.

It's hard to see Dangerfield playing a midfield-centric role next year isn't it? Especially considering how dominant he was late last season as a forward.

Is there enough room for all of Dangerfield, Selwood and Ablett to play as primary midfielders in your most optimal midfield setup? Or will Dangerfield have to make room for the likes of Selwood, Menegola and Duncan?

Decent gap filler, good old "Selley's"

Think you maybe underrating Mitch by a mile.

S Selwood won't play forward at all but will spend time in defence. J Selwood will spend 95% in the middle and Danger and Ablett probably 50/50 or 60/40. If Geelong is getting beaten in the middle I'd expect to see JS and GAJ in the guts.

I think Cockatoo is the wildcard here. If he is fit, can see him as an explosive mid, allowing Danger more time forward. I see GAJ as a luxury, and hopefully we get to see him anywhere on the ground- his delivery is an asset everywhere, the best in our team. SS will do the protector role, and then we have Duncan, Guthrie and Menegola alternating as mids.
I'd like Selwood Joel to play and stay "centre" and dominate there.
Our depth this year is "potentially" scary.
Parsons, Thurlow, Gregson, Parfitt, Linc should all have better seasons.
I really think Guth jnr will ultimately be the new Mackie

Hipwood has a lot of upside.

Lynchy, what can I say. I do not want him playing in any opposition team. Cameron is a very similar type.

Patton & Boyd ref is a little lost on me when the comparison was including Boyd & Schache.

Very much like Moore, maybe a victim of circumstance.

The thread is about our best '18 team. None of those guys are going to playing for us this year.

I’m lost; isn’t Schache, Cameron, Patton and boyd on other lists? Is this topic about best 2018 team or beyond?

I like the idea of Danger to FF but only as a resting spot for him rotating from the midfield.

Given how stacked our midfield in I can't see Cockatoo getting much opportunity in there. I really like what Cockatoo offers as a mid sized forward shows a good mix of everything you could want from the role, I'd rather have him next to Dangerfield in the forward line then switching with him in the midfield. A forward line of Hawkins, Menzel, Dangerfield, Cockatoo and McCarthy offers a ridiculous amount of F50 marking power.

Of our young ones, I want to push Parfitt into the middle asap, I don't think he has much of a goal sense but his composure in traffic has been excellent so far. I want him to be the guy who receives it from out in and under mids and feeds it out from the congestion.

I also found when Danger went forward Menegola really stood up and played a better midfield role
I believe our best starting midfield would be Selwood, Ablett, Menegola
With Danger forward and Duncan on the wing

Fwiw, without seeing the newbies,
What I'd like to see-

B-Bews Henderson Kolo
HB-Thurlow Stanley C Guthrie
C-Tuohy SSelwood Murdoch
HF-Ablett Taylor Cockatoo
F-McCarthy Hawkins Menzel
FOLL-Smith Danger J Selwood
I/C- Blicavs, Duncan, Menegola, Stewart,
EMER- Parsons, Gregson, Parfitt

Interchanges occur about 3 mins after start time, so it matters not. Great to have a quality bench putting pressure on.

* Scooter a sick note appears so far...

Got a bad feeling we won't see Scooter much on the park this season... Ankle surgery again.
Not the start we needed in preseason for SS. Has he ever had a full preseason?
Gives guys like GHS added impetus.
