Who is your favourite singer for his/her voice?

I wuold have to say Jon Davis from KoRn, listening to the song Slive, it is awesome, that whole album infact, Take a Look in the Mirror, is spectacular, I think he out-does James Hetfield in One, and Right Now is great, same with Hollow Life, off Untouchables, it is slow, but the note he gets is great. He also has a great "scream" :thumbsu:

I'll name a few more too.

James Hetfield (metallica) - 1984-1986 (before he lost his puberty)
Voice wise, Kill Em ALl, Ride the lightning and MAster of puppets, the albums, where great voice wise, the Ride the lightning (song) the Bit

is spectacular. He also plays guitar, plays some solos, and is probably a better guitarist than metallicas electric gutarisr Kirk Hammett.

Mikael Akerfeldt (opeth) - has a great scream, probably 2nd best to Jon Davis of KoRn, but only has a sream, not much else.

Tom Araya (slayer) - another great screamer. Reign in Blood is great too. He has a great song writing ability, which is a great bonus and most of the reason Slayer is so good. He also plays Bass Guitar, and does a pretty good job of it.

Amy Lee (Evanescence) - she has some great notes, with the affect of heavy guitars in the background, it makes a perfect combination. And she is pretty hot :thumbsu:
 
Also forgot to mention David Draiman (disturbed) - he has a great voice, probably my 2nd favourite behind Davis, in the album The Sickness, he gets his voice to do some trippy things. THey also did a cover of Metallicas' Fade to Black, which was magical.
 
MM the fact that you listen to ******** like Korn and Evanescence remind me why Metallica are so ******** now. They (along with Slayer) have become some sort of status symbol for teenagers going through puberty who think they are "hardcore" and tough because they listen to that ********, and sadly, it gets lumped in with garbage like said bands. These little sh*ts wouldn't have a clue about real metal- anyone who thinks the Black album is "the ********" is a complete w*nker in my opnion. (I use those terms in brackets derisively for those who arent aware). Anyone who has a fringe going over one eye, piercings, wears black and listens to those bands (probably has a skateboard too) is a little f*ckhead IMHO.

As for the question- Hansi Kursh of Blind Guardian and Bruce Dickenson of Maiden obviously would be right up there.

*MM, I'm not having a go directly at you, although it seem that way, just using your music for a little diatribe against said tossers. Just really pissed off at today's youth culture stealing music they know nothing about in order to beef their egos up.

You could probably say that about Disturbed too.

About the emo thing, I am not emo, I dont have a fringe over my eye, thats gay, no peircings, and I don't cut myself.

ANd about the Black Album, I hate it, its not heavy enough for me, it is what got me into Metallica and I appreiciate that, but I think it is crap.

I always find amusing the 'true' or 'real' Metalhead. It seems they judge their 'truth' or 'realness' by how much they hate Heavy bands they don't feel to be 'true' or 'real' Metal. True Metaldom doesn't come from how much you hate Korn and Slipknot. True Metaldom comes from a) your loyalty to the genre, sticking with it through thick and thin over the years, and b) acceptance of the fact that there are MYRIAD different styles/sub-genres within Heavy music, all of which can be appreciated.
 
Rock - John Frusciante.. nobody has a range like him and he is just musically brilliant, love him to death..

Hip Hop - The Game... just love his deep rough voice, speaks the same way all the time to, doesn't have a stage voice.. i wish my voice was that deep! :mad:

Araya didn't write a single note or lyric on Reign in Blood. Slayer has always centred around the songwriting team of King/Hanneman, who more often than not, write individually. Araya's biggest presence during their prime was felt on South of Heaven but that was mainly as a lyricist as opposed to a songwriter.

Michael Kiske
(amongst many others, but that is a fair indication of what I like)
 
I reckon the words "Chris" and "Cornell" could probably account for about 1/5th of my entire post count on BF!

But yeah, everything up until his Euphoria Morning solo album in 99 Cornell was always the one that took me to the happy place more than any other. I really really want his upcoming solo album to take me back there, but i just dont think he has the lungs for it anymore. Hope i'm wrong...

Just at the moment though, Maynard and Matt Bellamy are ruling my life.

Strange thing is, I'm actually not a fan of Soudgarden or Audioslave for that matter.
His impact on me can be summed up in 4 words:
Temple of the Dog.
What an absolute corker of an album. One of the best from the 90's.:thumbsu:

Its most definatly not anybody from bands like Slayer and co. They may have good voices for what they are trying to do with their music, but are they good singers?
Not really, the best singers in Rock are people like Chris Cornell, Matt Bellamy, Vedder, I'm a fan of Brandon Boyd's singing, but more from the earlier Incubus albums.

And just one more thing, Slayer do nothave great song writing ability

You are right they aren't great 'singers' in the true sense of the word. But screaming like that for an entire concert is painstaking work no doubt. Voice training is just as important and an talent for it so to speak is important to. I know I start to lose my voice after singing my fav songs for like 5 minutes (and I'm talking Maiden here), so I can only admire the ability of vocallists in all types of metal/rock bands.

Hell yeah, takes a lot to do what they do at live gigs over a massive amount of years.
IMO crap singers, fantastic vocalists:thumbsu:
Respect to them, buts still not a fan of their music to be honest, but can appreciate their skills and why people like it

As far as pure vocal range and control goes, Jason Mraz.

And he used to smoke too, which irks people who can't sing but wish they could, like me, just that little bit more.
