Besides dudding last time he had a go and perhaps a few people being ahead on the pecking order (Love, Clarke, Boof Lehmann, Hodge - maybe), do you think there's more to this bloke not getting a hit in the test squad?

Would love to see Bevan go to India and Sri Lanka

If he played instead of Katich the lineup wold be

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Lehmann
Martyn
Bevan

5 out of the six would be guys who were said to be washed up but were given a second chance.

All you would need to finish that off would be for Ponting to get injured an Stewart Law to get called up in his place:D

Totally agree about the Bevan thing. The aussie top order can be vulnerable to high quality spin bowling and big turning tracks. Bevan is clearly one of ..... if not our best player of spin bowling!
If you saw the recent one day series in india he played the turning bowlers and tracks so well. Also if u can remember back to the previous time Sri Lanka came over here...particulary the game when we when Lehmann got suspended... we were falling into peices as Murali and co. ripped through our top order. Sri Lankan threw everything at Bevan yet he didn't fall. He, along with help from Buff, won us that game.
Still a query though on wheter Bevo has overcome his problem with the short pitched bowling.
Worth another shot i reckon....at test level.... will add stability!!!

I hope not in my lifetime. The sight of a grown man hopping all over the crease once the ball rises above his ankles heaps shame on the baggy green.

All the years of talks about Bevan not being able to play the short ball is utter rubbish. All were based on sheer judgement of the way he was dismissed in his Test match days by so-called experts who wouldn't know how to play short-pitched deliveries themselves.

Bevan is one of the most prodigious scorcer of runs in Australian first class cricket when Australia's the country where you'd be most exposed to short-pitched delivieries with the extra bounce our pitches gets, those who even doubt about his ability to play a short ball don't know what they're talking about.

Must admit with that last post. I am not a Bevan fan, think he is extremely selfish the way he trys to protect his average in One day cricket, but he has constantly made high scores in domestic cricket for a while now. His bowling is not far off the quality of Hogg, and better than Katich. Play him, bat him at 6 and see how he goes. Hes probably the only unlucky NSW player at the moment. Bloody Nathan Bracken, how can he get a game????

Bevans too slow even in the 5 day Version of the Game.

No room for him in the team now or ever.

I'm sure that 200 he scored last week wouldn't have been worthy or Grade cricket?

I'd suggest most people who watch cricket "do" know what they're talking about ... He's had so many chances, especially when compared to Siddons, Law, Hodge, Lehmann, Di Venuto, etc..

Sure it doesn't have anything to do with his Birth Certificate ?? - as in "place of ......?"

Bevan is probably in career best form but he'd be less than a 1% chance of selection for the Sri Lankan tour and he can only blame his mouth.

At the start of the season he stated he was planning on giving away the extended version of the game so he can concentrate on extending his ODI career. That IMO was a pretty stupid thing to say (even if tongue in cheek, which I doubt it was).

Bevan has the same chance of being picked for the Test side as Justin Langer has of being in the ODI side.

It may not make sense, but that's the way it is.

Bevan deserves to be in there.Anyone who says he cant play the short ball hasn't played the game.It takes more courage to get behind it and defend than to swat it away in a self preserving swipe.Bevan went out pulling a few times when he was younger so he stopped playing pulls and hooks and its improved his game if anything.

A big statement, and also complete tosh !
Atleast I backed my statement up.You dont put up the sort of numbers that Bevan is currently on the fastest and bounciest pitches in the world if you cant play the short ball.Just hang in there and keep watching the game for a while you should figure it out sooner or later.

Compare his record at the SCG with his record at other Aussie grounds. It tells the story.

You didn't back up your statement at all. You said what you did because you're obviously a Bevan fan, and more power to you for that, I think it's good that Aussie supporters wear their hearts on their sleeves...but Michael Bevan is NOT a good player of short pitched bowling, that much is known and unfortunately that will probably stop him from adding to his test record.

But at least he has a test record, I'd like to hear the conversation around the dinner table if it was him, Jamie Siddons, Brad Hodge and Stewie Law dining together.!

It was a joke that Bevan got as many chances at Test level when he was keeping someone like Boof out of the side. He can't play the chin music very well & never will.

They say the same about Steve Waugh just because they dont play the pull.I will guarantee you if you look through all the dismissals of great pullers and hookers like I.Chappell and even a Ponting that they will have gone out more to the short ball than Waugh and Bevan.

The difference is they score against the short ball too! All Bevan does is fend the short ball to the slips/gully. Jason Gillespie handles the chin music better than Bevan!
