I loved reading this article about setant! He is fast becoming a well respected player by all in the afl.

I asked Setanta what his first impression of Australian football was. “Just the toughness of it. It's the toughest sport in the world. You train for six months to play 22 games each of 120 minutes and you're expected to come up each week.” The hardest aspect of his transition to AFL football was acquiring what he calls “game knowledge”. “You can put a good athlete into Aussie rules and he'll run around all day, but you have to be able to find the football.”

Setanta is still news in Ireland. After his training flare-up with teammate Cameron Cloke last year, a story appeared in the Irish press quoting Sean Og as saying Setanta had thought of returning home at that time. When I asked him about that, he became slightly flustered. “I shouldn't have kicked him. I know that was against the ethics of Australian football. But now we have to move on.” Going home at that time would, he says, have been “the easy thing to do”.

Nice article, had to do it all the hard way, the most improved player in the AFL. :thumbsu:

Good read, but I didn't like the bit about how he got his name Carlos and when it comes to someone looking a bit foreign, near enough is good enough.

Calling him Carlos has nothing to do with him looking a bit foreign. It is purely a play on the name Setanta and close to Santana, nothing more, nothing less. Stop making us sound ignorant at every turn FFS.

Agreed! How can he (the journalist) just assume this bs and write it in an article?!

Besides that, good read :thumbsu:

I thought exactly the same, it ruined an otherwise great article by insinuating that we're not able to accept a "foreign" name so we make something up that's similar and run with that.

I love the passion of the Irish, my Grandparents were exactly the same. They bled for their country, it's beliefs and heritage.
