Was having a quiet arvo watching some football and races with mates and it occured to me, horse racing is a joke at times.

I'm not a person who punts on the GG's(worst betting medium of the codes), but I have to say what's the point of continuing a race card when there's an obvious bias?

As soon as you shift the running rail out from the post you are creating a situation where by it's harder for horses who settle back in the field to win.

And to make it even worse you then have jockeys who seem too stupid to even realise a bias in a track and settle a horse 15 lenghts off a leader on a leader biased track.

I'm not sure what could be done to rectify such things but to me it makes a mockery of the code when a whole meeting can be so biased.

If it was so biased and predictable their would be more people who made a living out of punting.......

The bias of the track is predictable.

Doesn't mean you find the winner, just means the majority of horses in the field have far less chance of getting into the race than on an even track.

Seen too many meetings over the years where if you aren't in the first 3-4 round the turn you have no chance at all.

That kind of bias is far more common than a bias for swoopers.

There arent too many horses that consistently sit in the last couple and swoop home and win reguarly, ecspecailly in group races. (Divine Madonna is an exception) this is because most good horses have the ability to sit and sprint when they need too rather than having one big sustained run towards the end.

Usually when a horse flies home they just look faster than they are because there are donkeys up front or the horses at the front have gone too hard from the start.

I don't agree with the track bias being a massive problem, we did see it happen a little last year, however Im a firm believer that if a horse is good enough it can win from anywhere on the day....

More a fan of the red hots? I mean, come on, there's never any bias there..... they're more trustworthy as well, crims on rims is an unfair and wrong label. lawl. The GG's are the best betting medium of the 3 (Gallops/Trots/Dogs), but hey, whatever works.

Those same 'stupid' jockeys who settle their horses back in the field even on a track favouring on-pacers might do so because some horses are incapable of racing up on the pace and would do **** all in the end anyway? Uh duh.

So what's your proposal, never shift the running rail because it makes it harder for horses coming from behind? lol

Often this so called 'bias' is track condition/weather related. Nothing can be done for that. When combined with the features of a track (i.e. short home straight), it can make the 'bias problem' seem worse...

Track 'bias', be it avoidable or unavoidable is a part of the punt and always has been and it's the job of punters to be able to recognise it and take it on board...

Daaay-ummm, I see heaps of winners coming from the tail of the field to win at Moonee Valley trots.... bias bias bias :|

Actually I'm more of a fan of the dogs. :)

No stupid ****wits sitting on them or cheating little ***** pulling their reins ;)

As for the GG's being the best betting medium thats laughable.

A champion dog or pacer has far more chance of winning 5-10 on end than a GG.

That's because the tracks they race on are less likely to be affected by a bias and the times they can run will have a much bigger effect on the outcome compared to a GG race.

Mooney Valley is a biased trotting track, that's why there have been calls to look into changing it so it isn't, duh.

As for the bolded part, that's part of the issue at hand.

If its a leader biased track and the horse can't race on the pace then the bloody thing should be scratched from the race rather than have it go round with no hope in the world of winning.

Why would someone pay to go to the races and enter a horse if they thought it had no chance of winning....and what you dont think Dog races are rigged, what about the trainers grabbing the dog on the balls before putting it in the gates or taking the dog for a run before they get to the track....

No dog racing is completley clean of bias, and barriers dont mean anything???

When they enter their horse in the races they don't know of the bias.

It's after the first race or two the bias becomes apparent.

As for dog racing it has far, far less bias than any of the other codes that's for sure.

You sound like you are out of the 1930's if you think people are grabbing dogs balls(dunno how you do that to a bitch?) under the nose of stewards who are there when the dogs are put in the "boxes" not "gates".
