Its Geelong by miles. 1/ They have the ground ready to go, it will hold 35000. 2/ They love their sport in Geelong. 3/ Weather is perfect 4/ Train station 5 minutes from the entrance. 5/ Short walk to the city centre. No need to look anywhere else.Canberra, Geelong next then can start with the minor cities getting 2nd teams.
Maybe even Nth Qld and Newcastle. But both need grounds.

Both Cairns & Townsville have grounds to suit I dont think Newcastle has.. Its really just a matter of how many teams they want in BBL. I would have thought ACT & GC next. They have excellent grounds.Canberra, Geelong next then can start with the minor cities getting 2nd teams.

This is idiotic if they want to play at Fremantle Oval. You'd need at least 50 million to get that place to standard, which has about as much chance of getting through the council as a nuclear power plant built on the Esplanade. Never mind that no-one's forking out that sort of money for 4 matches a year.
It's the worst ground in the WAFL. The only thing it's got going for it is the history of the place, which is far outweighed by the utter lack of spectator comfort (which is zero).
Hadnt thought of the weather aspect. Good pointWould a Nth Qld team really work that well? It'd have to be based in Townsville for the weather (surely Cairns would be too wet?) and not sure the demand is there for a sports team other than league.
Perth already has a team. Geelong does not.Perth is a 'minor city' seeking a second team, as opposed to Geelong, with its 200,000 people?
They do? Cool but as someone pointed out the weather up there might suck at the time. Both Cairns & Townsville have grounds to suit I dont think Newcastle has.. Its really just a matter of how many teams they want in BBL. I would have thought ACT & GC next. They have excellent grounds.
Our 'minor' city has 2 titles.Perth already has a team. Geelong does not.
Hense my comment of Geelong getting one before the minor cities get their 2nd.

Our 'minor' city has 2 titles.
The two sides from your 'major' city have 0 combined.
Would say we deserve a 2nd side before they start dishing them out to Victorian regional centres.

I don't know Perth very well, nor do I understand the geography of grounds or the north/south of the river thing.
But wouldn't the argument likely be that one of the teams play out of the WACA and the other play out of the new Perth Stadium?
The new stadium might entice BBL to create a new WA team. Its another reason for WA3 in the AFL; )I'm not arguing either way, but just pointing out that the base of the next team has literally 0 to do with team success.
It's stadiums, money, viability, attendence and TV viewership...
Perth 2nd team might be a better candidate than Geelong under those criteria, I don't pretend to know, but you can quit believing winning titles will make a difference to Perth getting a 2nd team.
You know what we WAers are like, and yeah I do get a tad annoyed when we are referred to as a 'minor' city. Shit call, for me.Ummmm my city?
Sixers won year 1.
Thunder current champs.
So no.
I disagree. You seem to take it personal which is weird but no way Perth gets a 2nd side before Canberra and Geelong and possibly another QLD side

Apologies, 'your' clearly wasn't the best choice of words. Should have said the state you were advocating for.
T20 support is great over here and a second team could well succeed. The only issue I have with the BB is the lack of quality internationals we can attract due to the timing of the tournament.
All good mate, I'm just tired/grumpy and overreacted. My apologies. Meant no disrespect.
I think they're piggy backing off the redevelopment which is being planned anywayThis is idiotic if they want to play at Fremantle Oval. Id say east freo is worse but agree freo oval is a shocking idea for cricket. Of all the wafl grounds its the one with the least room for redevelopment. This is idiotic if they want to play at Fremantle Oval.
