What expansion teams should be added to the Big Bash League?

Players like Putland (if he's still around), Sayers, David Moody, Peter George and such would be playing perhaps.

On the other hand, players like AJ Tye, Liam Bowe (who was very impressive), Cameron Boyce, James Muirhead have all started in the BBL and made a career from the opportunities there.

AJ Tye started from the Matadors Cup.

Boyce was playing for QLD before the BBL (or whould have played anyway).

Adelaide's attack is the perfect illustration of why any more than ten teams any teams in the near future would be a mistake

That's why I'd like any expansion to be into New Zealand. Need to tap into another pool of talent to fill any additional teams.

It'd be nice if Associate nation players were excluded, or in a separate category, from International signings

You could see teams taking a punt on Mohammad Shahzad, Kevin O'Brien, George Dockrell...

Could deepen the pool

Afghanistan's spinners would have a field day.

Instead of adding new teams straight away the existing teams could play 2 additional home games in regional areas to gauge interest for future expansion.

For example:
Melb Stars: Geelong, Albury
Melb Renegades: Ballarat, Traralgon
Syd Thunder: Canberra, Wollongong
Syd Sixers: Newcastle, Gosford
Adelaide: Port Lincoln, Darwin
Hobart: Launceston, Devonport
Perth: Mandurah, Bunbury
Brisbane: Gold Coast, Townsville

Given the Stars are the south/east club and Gades the north/west club, wouldn't it make more sense for the Gades to play in Geelong and Ballarat and the Stars in Traralgon and maybe Casey?

One regional game per team is more than enough IMO. Four games at home, One regional "home" game, four away games at current venues and one away game in a regional ground (ten games) each would be about right IMO.

Even in WA and SA it's hard to see which ground is actually suitable for another game. It's not like either state is a realistic chance for expansion until the competition reaches about 12 teams which I honestly hope never happens. Same with Tasmania obviously except that Launceston is a pretty obvious second venue.

For me:
Hurricanes: Launceston
Stars/Renegades: Geelong/Ballarat
Sixers/Thunder: Canberra/Newcastle*
Heat: Gold Coast
Strikers: ???
Scorchers: Bunbury*

*These venues have been good enough for first class cricket before so could probably be set up to host a once a year BBL game.

Not sure on which SA towns have a suitable ground available. Agree Darwin is no chance due to the likely weather.

Not all these venues are reasonably likely to ever have a team but in the interest of relative fairness I think all teams should play at least one game home from their main venue.

Again we need to ask , will Ballarat or Geelong hold 40k?

What will the new Perth stadium attract for the BBL & will any other regional ground in WA hold that figure?

Will the clubs trade support for the chance to play regional games?

Geelong isn't far off 40k

The only places in the country with the stadium size and facilities, and population wise to back it up would be the Gold Coast, Geelong, Canberra and Launceston.

You could say the same about AFL yet we have games held in Darwin, Alice Springs, Townsville, Cairns, New Zealand etc...

You couldn't hold games in Darwin, Townsville or Cairns. It's the wet season up there.

Because Melbourne teams desperately need the cash.

Send the Strikers to Traeger Park, Alice Springs. I'm told it's a magnificent surface!
