Looked to me like Head ran himself out then abused Green.
Definite leadership material.

Do you actually think Cape Town was the first time they'd ball tampered?
I think every team does it. They are just not as stupid and amateurish as we were in how they do it. As Lyon pointed out recently, the SA team were getting more swing and getting it earlier than we were through that series even though we were sandpapering the ball. So they were undoubtedly doing something aswell.

The whole team knew about it and i always thought it was going to be just a matter of time before one of the 3 people who have taken all the blame decided to try and exonerate themselves by diluting the blame amongst the whole team.

The act isn't great but fk me the punishment was ridiculous. The public reaction (mostly hanging them out to dry) was ridiculous. Shameful from CA and the average fan. Shahid Afridi got a fine for this;

Cameron Bancroft's name became mud purely because he was the young sucker in the team who wouldn't say no to the captain.

Reverse swing = ball tampering . Simple as that kids. Who is "reversing" these days ? Over reaction from cricket Australia who basically wanted to be seen as better than everyone else. No wonder so many crew cbf with the game any more. fwiw, could never understand why Warner was made the biggest villain ? He wasn't captain. Of course all the bowlers knew, the whole thing is pathetic and the gullible public even more so. *me.

Why Warner? Because he has the kinda bold personality on the field. An easy pantomime villain.

At least it should be better next summer when our home tests are against <checks notes> the West Indies
Aw hell no.
Really?

Where's Pakistan or NZ?

Edit: Pakistan already here for 3 tests. We go to NZ in Feb

How about we skip the Windies tests for two more Pakistan tests.

The guy was in his mid twenties, his age is way over stated in terms of relevance.

Cricket ages at the elite level are way "higher" than footy ones. As well as that, Bancroft wasn't just young by age, it was more experience as well (or lack thereof having only played a handful of tests).

We may have to agree to disagree on this one.

From my perspective he had been playing first class cricket (in Australia and the UK) for six years before he played for Australia. He played seven tests before the issue. I certainly agree that he was pressured into doing it and for that he had less culpability. However, I disagree with the narrative that he didn't know how wrong his actions were.

Bancroft would have gone down a bit of a hero had he done the right thing and said no.

I don't buy the whole 'he was the new guy, so of course he went along with it' narrative. You always have a choice to do the right thing. He failed.

I think the punishment was appropriate, the fact that others have had lesser/no punishments is kind of irrelevant.

The main thing that rankles is we probably won't ever know the whole extent of it, who did and didn't know etc. Some will get away with their culpability.

Cricket Australia are completely incompetent. That Hockley bloke needs to go. He can't get a thing right.

With the Warner/Captaincy ban issue, just make a decision quietly and then act on it.

If you decide he can never be Captain then tell him quietly not to apply to have his ban overturned because it won't be (and thus he will never apply), try to smooth it over with him and therefore never even start a process or have any reason for there to be any public commentary on it at all.

Or decide he can be Captain, just wait for the off season when cricket is out of the news and announce it then. It will make news for a day and then the story will be buried or just disappear under the weight of AFL news.

Don't wait for all the sporting public's attention to be on the cricket, then have Warner publicly applying for the ban to be overturned, then have lengthy deliberation process where there is loads of time and opportunity for media/public commentary and discussion about it bagging the people involved again, thus picking at the Sandpapergate scab. Which then results in another public lynching of Warner, prompting him to throw the toys out of the cot and open the can of worms by blaming others. The thing is a powderkeg and CA's job is stop it going off. Don't allow or make any room for any public commentary on it .

Just be a leader and make a decision. You don't need to hear the opinion of every hack in the media to decide what you think is best. Either quietly and privately tell Warner not to apply, or tell Warner you will overturn it but want to wait for the off season to announce it and there is no reason for him to apply for anything or participate in any process, nor speak about it until it is announced. And minimise the chances of the powderkeg going off.

Why not send in Green and Carey to bay? God knows most of the top 5 (besides Warner) have seen enough time at the crease this series. Green looked super rusty, need to get him in better form for South Africa.
