Feels a little harsh on Hardie without digging through the stats. Agreed otherwise.
Started off on fire but he hasn't been striking the ball well the last 4 games. Went to the Strikers home game and he was running so poorly I thought he was legitimately injured. Been playing the same way since that game.

We play too many bowlers and Whiteman is Bog ordinary should not be getting a game but unfortunately other than Hobson not many better options. Everything changed when Turner went down totally screwed us.
Inglis needs to open.
Best team imo
1. Inglis
2. Eskinazi
3. Hardie
4. Evans
5. Hobson
6. Connolly
7.Whiteman
8. Agar
9. Tye
10. Berrendorf
11. Morris

12th. Richo been poor this Big Bash and cant throw

When was the last time Green played a game of cricket at any level?

I mean the West Indies aren’t a strong side but he’s being pitchforked into a test with no time in the middle since early December. Maybe longer ago than that

Green's last game was the first class fixture between the Prime Minister's XI and Pakistan at Manuka Oval in Canberra from 6-9 December 2023. There was no play on the final day due to the covers blowing off the pitch and the deck being soaked by rain.

Prior to that, his most recent game was the first class match between Queensland and Western Australia at the Gabba from 28 November 2023 to 1 December 2023.

Very difficult to see how the team as it is could possibly win the competition with such a thin batting line-up.

Only three players contributing with the odd performance by Crawley.

Agar is currently a joke as a batsman. Running down the pitch to take a quick single to get Evans off strike so he could bat and then throwing a mid pitch tanty when it was declined. No way in a million years Agar is going to win a game with his misses, blocks and singles.

What is the game plan? The Scorchers only chance of winning at that stage was Evans but none of the others could stay in and feed him the strike.

Too much weight on too few.

this gets forgotten a lot in the 'they were always doing it, the bowlers had to know' arguments

I personally think, that Warner with his taped up hands had been ball tampering for ages and the level of wear and tear on the ball from this level of ball tampering was basically accepted as normal.

I can see a universe where Warner has a brilliant idea during the lunch break, recruits Bancroft and casually mentions having something up his sleeve to Smith, while not mentioning it to anyone else. The only thing making this plausible for me is the fact the ball was not doctored enough to warrant replacement after being caught and they were so bad at hiding it.

So yeah, I can see the bowling unit being aware and party to the usual Warner bandaid hands ball tampering but not what happened in Capetown.

Pretty unlikely though.
Yeah Warners taped up hands! I remember the tape getting more and more rediculous over that 17/18 ashes series and wondering why. He has adhesive on the outside that picked up hard bits of stray clay from the pitch which he then used on the ball. Was very obvious in hindsight, especially starc losing his ability to reverse a red ball after south africa

Which makes me think the bowlers and team were fully aware of the "usual" type of tampering that most teams engage in in one way or the other but maybe not sandpaper. Obviously, if the sandpaper had roughed up the ball substantially then they must have known as any bowler would know. But given the umpires inspected the ball and there was no issue with it, maybe not. All of that is on the assumption that sandpaper was used for the first time. Which is,of course, unclear but questionable.

It would explain the somewhat differing views and angst within the team. Yeah, they all knew they were trying to rough up the ball and always try, pushing the boundaries on many occasions. But they didn't know anyone would use bloody sandpaper.

Anyway, until the full story comes out (and no doubt their will be counter narratives), we will never know but there is surely more to it than just Warner, Bancroft and Smith turning a blind eye to it.

Yeah, one more thing that I find interesting was all the talk from the South Africans, they knew we were doing it and had asked the broadcaster to catch us.

They only caught us once, it was so ****ing obvious and poorly planned (Warner's brilliant idea of course). I find it hard to think big brain Warner and Bancroft had been at it for years with sandpaper.

Yet, I can picture plenty of those hero shots of Warner working on the ball with his mummified hands in the period leading up to Capetown. Havent noticed too many since!

So yeah, maybe I can buy sandpaper being Warner's lunchtime 'brilliant idea' and it largely being confined to him and Bancroft.

Our bowling was disappointing last night but it's really our batting that is leaving us exposed. If Hardie, Inglis and Evans don't get it done we are paperthin.

Neser bullied us at 7. We trotted out Agar at 7

I think the Scorcher bowlers need a little lesson in bowling yorkers.
When you are getting tonked to the boundary bowling mid pitch and just off full, hit the batter in the bloody foot.
I think Morris did it once.

Thought it was poor captaincy not to try Connolly last night.
Having said that, we had them 5/91 but credit to Neser and Billings.

To be fair, I don't think anyone thought we would win last night.
Playing the top side at home with a full compliment of their test players
was always going to be hard.

On the bright side, McKenzie looks like a keeper.

Team selection will be interesting next game.
Crawley will be gone and will Tye come back in for McKenzie?

Hopefully we start to see the spin as a viable attacking option more often as we did in Sydney - McKenzie, Connolly and Agar are all more than capable of taking a wicket or at least changing things up a bit.

Otherwise we get predictable with our seamers all bowling a similar line, length and pace.

Might not happen this year but if Connolly can find form with the bat, he’ll be a genuine batting all rounder option. McKenzie looked pretty dangerous once he pitched it up more

Mostly because Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph are high quality, especially in comparison to the CA bowlers.
Shamar Joseph looks like he could be fun too. Hopefully it's a lively deck at Adelaide and we bat first.
