Big forwards

We need one for sure. We’ll just have to go with what’s best available at the time.

If we can’t get Schache then we go all out for Lynch. If that fails then we try and nail one with our first rounder next year.

Try and get Schache this year, have a play at Lynch, draft a key forward if a decent one is available at our pick.(No point in reaching for a forward if mids are putting their hand up at our pick)

And not forgetting Sicily can mark/kick them too.. We have the makings of a super flexible team...

Which is How Clarko likes it. all those guys are fairly mobile too

Intersting we are looking at the end of roughie yet hes just been made captain. Players arent going to come to hawthorn and play ressies until rough retires

This is of huge concern to us going forward and the only decent one we have on our list is Roughead and he will be 31 by the time next season starts. The way I see it is we basically have 3 options, get a young talent like Schache this year, go all out for Tom Lynch in free agency in 12 months time or pray to god we get one with our 1st rounder in next year's supposed bumper draft.

What are other people's thoughts on the situation ? We are obviously short in midfield also but a Key forward is the other one of our pressing needs.

Someone pointed out a while ago that in trading in TOM and JOM we've brought in two mid aged players, albeit at the younger end.

If we draft a KPF next year he's what 7 years behind those two, with big men taking longer to develop blah blah blah if the guy came through we're only going to have a tiny window post Roughy of a decent big man with our champion onballers.

I don't think we'll pay the kind of money Lynch would need.

So I think Schache is a rare opportunity, too good to miss not taking a punt on.

He's 3 years ahead of next year's draftees, so if we develop him well can still have 6 years or so with those other two.

Ceglar is our best tap ruckman. As good as TOB or Shoe up forward. Cegs plays, TOB and Shoe back to Box Hill and Gunston returns to the forward line.
TOB is an intercepting half back if I have ever seen one!!!. He does what the coach tell him to do. Tell him to mark everything that comes into the backline and TOB will mark it.
Ceglar is our best ruckman if he is at his best. Both he and McEvoy take marks inside 50.

Simple logic... we need Schache

Well... we need an up and coming KPP who can do his thing in the forward line. Is that Schache? If he can't be the man we need up forward, then no, we don't need nor want Schache. Do we take the punt and trade for him to see if he can be that guy? Not if it requires any future picks. Otherwise, if the player trades are reasonable, then sure, come on down.

My thoughts at the moment are that a deal to get Schache now is too expensive in terms of draft picks. if a Victorian side had a Charlie Cameron that had nominated Brisbane it'd be done easily I imagine. The thing is with Schache it seems like there's a fair chance he'll be available next year. If he has a good year it's some risk reduced and you know what your buying. if he struggles on field or off field you'll get him cheaper. Another year of physical maturity won't hurt him in any respect whichever side he ends up at. The bulldogs might still get it done perhaps through the stringer trade but to me it seems unlikely. Last day of trade period always surprises though.

Lynch and Ottens aren't big forwards.

Ottens is a big, slow swing man which kinda counts as the same. It was a poor decision considering Richmond's lineup. They went in with Lever, Lynch, Talia, Ottens, Tex, Hartigan, Jacobs who are all pretty tall. Richmond went in with Rance, Astbury, Riewoldt and Nankervis.

Almost double the amount of talls. They were stuck though, they'd gone through this whole year with a certain team makeup and it had worked; couldn't exactly bring in anyone else to change it.

Anyway, to the point; KPP depth is important, but more than that KPP quality is moreso. Just look at how much better GWS performed without Cameron and with a more dynamic lineup forward.

I thought GWS forward line looked to have limited structure all year, with or without Cameron, maybe it would be more dynamic without Leon Cameron though.

I think GWS have too much high end talent to be managed by most coaches. It's all well and good to have a team full of top end talent, but they're all players who are used to being the big dogs so you've got no one doing the tough stuff. Can't blame Leon for not being able to manage that.

Yes you can because that's his job, he gets paid to manage that, he has the most talented list in the league by some way and only 2 prelim exits to show for it thus far.
