Duff has long been a fringe player in our 22. He has struggled a bit with clangers, and disposal and decision-making have not always been up to scratch, and his positioning down back has been discussed at length on here.

But I just want to give Duff a pat on the back. He took his dropping a few rounds back right on the chin, and has come back to play his bets footy ever. His confidence is growing and with each week and each increase in confidence he has just got better and better.

He is a ball magnet, who is now easily in our Best 22, and I reckon good on him! (And before you gummies mob say anything - yes, he is currently the best thing at FFC to have come right through all the ranks at Souths... :p).

Duff's stats from yesterday read:

22 kicks, 12 handballs, 8 marks, 5 tackles, 10 contested possessions, 4 clearances, 4 1%ers.

Well done Duffman - you have come of age. :thumbsu:

Good post IP. His disposal efficiency was 84%, too, which put him 6th in the team though none of those with better efficiency had anywhere near the number of possessions. He has really upped his performances and it is great to see him putting it all together. Go Duff-man.

His first half efficiency would have bordered on 50%... and that kickout in the 2nd was woeful (don't think it counts), will see how he goes, he's still a fringe player for mine.

Very harsh. I think we've all been critics of Duff-man but yesterday was his career best game. Credit where it's due. Let's see if he can back it up next week. :thumbsu:

Shat all over Mundy yesterday.

Nowhere near a career best. Once he gets a consistent game he'll be better than a fringe player, but he can't rely on the team to step up after woeful first halves all the time.

His kicking out from the square was bordering on.....AFL level....lol given how bad we are in that respect ;)

OOH yeh!!

Great game from the Duffman yesterday and is only going to get better.

I picked him for a star in the making last year some time..

Duffield has been progressingly getting better over this season. Still a few too many fumbles/turnovers for my liking but he seems to have confidence down back there unlike a lot of backmen.

Good finish to the game and certainly took his dropping in the right manner and has come back showing the goods. Certainly deserves a game easily atm.

After 30 games it was his career best and if you think he's had one better, please post it.

So it was Duffman's woeful first half and the team stepped up to get him out of it?

You should learn to give credit where credit is due and maybe realize that Duffield is providing Harvey with the opportunity to release Hayden further up the ground where his class has more scoreboard impact. He has also stepped up after being dropped 2 weeks ago.

All AFL players make bad errors.Except for the mis-kick at the point after kick in I don't remember any others but officially he had 2 clangers out of 34 possies.I wasn't impressed with his first few weeks but he definately has lifted his game in fact I had trouble between him and Hase for BOG.His kicking when there was a flood of players around was great and I can see now why there is great expectations of him.

30 games for the Duff-man? Not his career best game, eh? Footywire would suggest otherwise:

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pp-fremantle-dockers--paul-duffield

22 kicks, career best
12 handballs, career best
8 marks, one short of career best.
5 tackles, one short of career best.

FFS he was even credited with 2 hitouts, which is, you guessed it, career best. :p

Duff-man would have been in the top 5 on the ground yesterday. For a guy who has been in and out of the team for years, that's a massive achievement. Respect, Duff-man. That was your best game for Freo. :thumbsu:

Wow, he had a career best numbers wise. Thats like so awesome for your DT's and shit, but as I said, he needs more consistency in an entire game.

Crikey, Bradesman, you were wrong. No need for this sarcastic bull****. Duff played a blinder and deserves credit for it. Having just watched the replay, I reckon his third quarter was a large part of why we got back into the game.

I was one person who wasn't that bothered by Duffman's axing earlier in the season. I thought he had way too many clangers in the first couple of games. That said, I felt he was bloody good yesterday. I'd love to see him play like that consistently! Fringe player? I dunno .... considering many around here rate Murphy a 'fringe player', I'd have to say (comparatively speaking) that Duff is a friggin superstar.

Mmmmmm. Never seen someone flip and flop so much in a single thread. Smells fishy.
Way to Selective quote. He didn't have a career best game, in terms of playing the game of AFL. Sure, if it was "how many possessions can you get" then sure, he'd have a career best, but thats not how AFL works.

Says you, the layman. Impress us with your memory, what was his career best game in _your_ opinion since you know it wasn't this one?

Actually, detailed statistics allow a non subjective account of a players performance to be assessed pretty accurately. Meanwhile you going "nah it was the vibe" is subjective and relies upon you being a solid character in the community, which you are not.

His game against Sydney was better. May not have got as much of the ball, but used it consistently better than he did on Saturday, also did a good job of making sure his man was beaten.

Detailed statistics? You mean like thats the most possies he ever had and marks, hitouts? They aren't detailed.

I clearly remember saying "nah it was the vibe"

Nah, if you were going to bring out another game to challenge this it would have to be the game against Richmond last year.
Nice pick Chops. Him and Hayden kept us in that match. The Wiz tried his best to make sure we lost.

I've been a fan of Duffman since his first derby (the thriller in 2006), his second game. Had a lot of poise in defence in a tight match. It's been disappointing that he's been inconsistent since, but his last game was very good.
