John Tinniswood of Liverpool England at age 112 (born 26-Aug-1912). He was the oldest man in the world, a title that has passed hands three times this year from Juan Vicente Perez of Venezuela who had held the title since January 2022 having been born on 27-May-1909, the last known male born prior to 1910. His death on 2nd April 2024 saw the baton pass to Shi Ping of China who was born on 01-Nov-1911, and the last known male who was alive when the Titanic sank (15-Apr-1912). Ping's hold on the record however was short, not even three months before he died on 29-Jun-2024, the title passing to Tinniswood who celebrated his 112th birthday in August while the oldest man in the world.

The death of Tinniswood sees the title pass to 112-year-old Joao Marinho Neto of Brazil, who was born on Saturday 05-Oct-1912. This was a week after the 1912 VFL Grand Final in which Essendon defeated South Melbourne, with disappointed Swans players possibly thinking back to the game 7 days earlier ruing what went wrong and vowing that the next time South Melbourne played Essendon in the Grand Final, the Swans would beat the Dons and get their revenge. They are still awaiting that day, as there has not been an Essendon vs. Swans in all the years the since. Of all the Grand Final combinations that have actually occurred between teams still playing in their own right, Essendon vs. Swans in the one that hasn't come up again for the longest time.
