Bindi Irwin

She is completely overexposed, precocious and annoying. And I feel terribly sorry for her. Everything is so bloody forced. She is not going to be allowed anything even resembling a normal childhood, and will be posing for blokes magazines as soon as it's legal and probably in rehab by 16.

Whoever is pulling her strings and pushing her in front of camera's is a disgrace.

Whenever Steve Irwin appeared on TV, it made me want to kick the TV screen in, Bindi has the same effect on me.
Terri, do your daughter & everyone else a favour & keep her off TV.

No, it isn't.

Yes it is. You offer no other reason as to why I shouldn't hate the public Bindi Irwin except that she's a child.

I just find it disturbing that grown adults are honouring the time-honoured Aussie tradition of Tall Poppy Syndrome towards an eight year old.

Why? Again, simply because she's a child. And Tall Poppy syndrome is completely missing the mark, as useful as you find it for your argument. I don't resent her success. That's just ridiculous.

I've said 'hate' because I struggle to believe that you could hate a child, regardless of whether she's a public figure or not.

Charlie you're an intelligent guy. I know you are. Why are you being so obtuse now? I think I've made the point over and again in this thread that there is a distinct difference between hating the next door neighbours' kids, as there is hating a public figure and the image that they portray. Don't try and blur them as one and the same. They are distinct concepts. You realise this.

As a celebrity making money out of public interest, it's part and parcel that there will be polarised opinions. Don't tell me, Charlie, you're one of these people who weep and gnash their teeth over the poor celebrities who can't get any privacy when they divorce, convienently ignoring the fact they sold their freaking wedding photo's to some women's magazine for a small fortune.

The Irwins have made an extremely comfortable living by living their life in the media. They have exploited the media to their own ends. Now you're crying about the fact that, as public figures, some people might have some strong opinions on them? I ask you again, I hated Urkel when he was on TV. I hated the fat kid off Hey Dad, too. Would you berate me regarding those hatreds as well?

At least they've gotten through primary school.

Now that makes no sense at all. Maybe you can put out a press release and let me and others know what age it's alright to start having negative emotions about celebrities?

Mate, you're the one that's put words in my mouth throughout this thread. You've suggested that I am criticising you because her dad died (which I never said), that you're obligated to love her because she's eight years old (which I never said) and that I think she's exempt from negative feedback because she's eight years old (which I never said).

You're free to say she's annoying or whatever. However if you can't see why saying that youfeel justified in hating an eight year old for 'putting herself out there' - when you're surely smart enough to know that she's not in control of her own 'career' (such as it is) is disturbing, then I repeat. That says more about you than Bindi Irwin.

I can say she's annoying but I can't say I hate her? I think you're getting a bit hung up on this hate word. If it offends you so much, then maybe I should rethink using it, but I think that's ridiculous. Mate, there's a hell of a lot I hate about popular culture, just as there's a lot I love. I'm sure it's the same with you, no? I repeat, she's a part of popular culture. I do not give a flying ******** if she's an 8 year old girl. She's "out there" as you say. Whether that's her or her parents doing that does not mean I'm not entitled to hate the Bindi Irwin phenomenon.

My reading of her prominence since her father's death is that it's a mix of media exploitation, her family taking the easy way out and letting a child bear the brunt of that media exploitation (which I don't agree with) and Bindi herself wanting to do it because it's what she used to do with her dad. I'm not particularly interested in what she's been doing these past three months, but I don't feel the need to vent about her online, either.

Venting online? That's a bit rich. I made a single line comment. You jumped in to her defence because you didn't like the opinions of a few people, of which I was one.. I sure as hell don't care enough about her to vent online in her defence, and I'm surprised you do.

Yes it is. You offer no other reason as to why I shouldn't hate the public Bindi Irwin except that she's a child.

Which, in my mind, is enough in itself. Hate the PR hacks around the family that have allowed her to try and take her dad's place, by all means.

Why? Again, simply because she's a child. And Tall Poppy syndrome is completely missing the mark, as useful as you find it for your argument. I don't resent her success. That's just ridiculous.

Maybe not her success. Her father's, maybe. Yes, he was a touch embarassing but I look at his career from a conservation/animal welfare perspective. As usual, opinions on this were divided but I personally have no doubt - I keep reptiles myself and no individual alive today has done more than Steve Irwin to raise awareness of reptile conservation. When groups like the WWF were focusing on big animals like tigers and cuddly ones like giant pandas (and there's nothing wrong with that) Irwin was changing millions of people's views on animals that aren't so cuddly, but are just as needy of protection.

Yes, they are but the point you seem to miss is that Bindi Irwin isn't responsible for 'putting herself out there'. Yes, I do think she's seeking the limelight, but her mother and the family's hangers-on should be the ones held responsible if it all goes awry. Not her.

No, but they are usually adults. Bindi Irwin should be in school playing with other kids and running rampant through the zoo - not trying to keep together the family business.

I'd find it disturbing in much the same way, yeah.

The point that I've tried to make is that it is not Bindi Irwin who has made those decisions. It was her parents and their business associates.

Now that makes no sense at all. Maybe you can put out a press release and let me and others know what age it's alright to start having negative emotions about celebrities?

Perhaps the age where they could plausibly be having some input into their 'publicity seeking'?

There's a massive difference between an eight year old and a sixteen year old. Surely you can see that?

I can say she's annoying but I can't say I hate her? I think you're getting a bit hung up on this hate word. If it offends you so much, then maybe I should rethink using it, but I think that's ridiculous. Mate, there's a hell of a lot I hate about popular culture, just as there's a lot I love. I'm getting very sick of going over the same ground. I think I've made my views on the matter fairly clear by now.

Well, my level of interest is certainly exhausted. All in all, I think if you were to wait a couple of months and then review this thread, you'd see posts about hating kids and speculation about when she's going to be hooked on drugs or appearing in Penthouse to be pretty poor form.

Fair enough :thumbsu:

What a load of rubbish lance. You are a good bloke that that is pure camel crap.

There's no way you could have hated Urkel.

I've said 'hate' because I struggle to believe that you could hate a child, regardless of whether she's a public figure or not.

No mate, this "child" has a carefully manufactured image, and that is what she's selling, and that is what we're hating.

p.s. Shes so freakin ugly as well

A lot too over publicised IMO, seems to be very staged-managed in the positivity stakes over the whole death of father, mother grieving, carrying on father's legacy type thing. Seems unusually false.
Hangers-on-ers seem to be using public emotion through Bindi to try and carry on the family business (and resultant finiancial influx) after the main drawcard's death a little too much however.

Seems fairly precocious and Americanised, and whilst at times can be very over the top and annoying, I'd rather that than some ill-mannered, horrid, dirty bogan child who pours petrol and lights his neighbours or pelts rocks at buses on the motorway however.

I don't like her. Over-exposed and annoying. I avoid her and her even-more-annoying mother, the same as I avoided good ol' Steve when he was around. More than 30 seconds of any of them is like nails down a blackboard.

I couldn't care less about her. I normally ignore/change the channel when she's on the TV for whatever reason. She's annoying and, yes, ugly.

I have gotten a laugh when John Stainton has said "We don't make her do anything she doesn't want to blah blah". Yeah, ******** off you don't...

It made the Sunday 5:30pm time slot on channel 9.

I love those crock men.

I feel sorry for her and she is an amazing kid given what has happened but now it is getting to the point to "too much". A two part interview on ACA, more interviews and magazine articles. Can't we leave the kid alone and let her get on with life?
She is getting on with her life. She is doing her bit by earning a living.

Well as long as you feel better after bagging out a kid. Time to get a life one senses.

Be warned..........yet another Bindi story leading ACA tonight. Yawn..........

I really wonder when she herself will grieve, another thing I wonder if she has been set up for the downfalls of being in the spotlight, one day you are on top of the world and then suddenly it all comes crashing down.

I agree, I find her annoying, I guess, maybe it's because of the new Fitness thing came out, it's been overplayed like crazy on TDT. But I too would much rather seeing that then some bogan doing that.

At times I found Steve to be annoying, but I didn't hate him, sometimes 'hate' is a very strong word, so rather then saying that I will say I do not like her at all, I am sure she might be a wonderful person, but she comes across as overly annoying.

Yes she is annoying, yes she is fugly, I can't stand her she ********'s me to tears. everytime I say to my mates geez shes ugly I get accused of being mean I'm glad you guys feel the same. There was something on the radio up here a while back saying how she has to go see a head doctor because Terri Irwin was very worried about her because she was too Happy. I can see her been around for a very long time, living off of her dad's fame etc I guess we are gonna have to get used to it.

Don't get me wrong I thought Steve was a legend but FF"s can someone shut Bindi up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No wonder she has the name Bindi. she is just like that little annoying weed you get in your yard every spring, Just when you think it's gone it another fricken one pops up again.

God you think thats annoying we get the Australia Zoo AD aswell which gets shown like 30 times a day (I'm Not joking) thats more annoying than the fitness dvd I've gone close to smashing my T.V because of it.

How is that bagging out a child? she is a ********ing pain in the ass and yes she's fugly theres no point trying to deny that.

Mini attention whore . Not a good thing for a kid .

I couldn't agree more, you haven't had the plessure of meeting her in person like I have. If you all think it's just an act for TV when you see her be assured it isnt shes like that in real life.
