He's uncommonly durable and causes minimal salary cap pressure. Imagine a universe where Blake was okay with that concept - he'd be the most loved bloke on Geelong's list.

I agree he is very durable. Not sure about the minimal salary cap pressure though, never seen anything formal to say that.

I've heard it said a number of times over the years but no link.

Did find this though:

Exclusive Champion Data analysis which calculates hitout success rates has anointed Port's Dean Brogan, Sandilands and Geelong's Mark Blake as the finest tap exponents in the game.

Also says Blake effectively twice as 'effective' as Mumford over that year. 10.7% vs 5.5% hitouts to advantage.

Haha! Where? at the pub? Surley if there are numerous cases of Geelong midfielders full of praise it wouldn't be too hard to find documentation, yes?

as for the second point "lies lies damn lies and statistics"

You go looking for it if you're so keen to find it. I'm content relying on my memory of events.

as for the second point "lies lies damn lies and statistics"

Translation: "These statistics don't support my bias".

Haha! "Trust me, seriously it happened.... Mum, tell the bad person that asks for a link that it happened that you heard it too" You strike me as the kind of person that refers to Wikipedia on a regular basis.

Nope, just a big fat red herring that you used when you couldn't back-up the original statement

West has that versitile potential Blake will never have.

Now Otto's playing so well and Hawkins can play fwd or ruck, this gives us latitude to ease West into the side.

I like his potential to be a tall target up fwd if required, rotating ruck duties.
At close to 2 mtrs tall he's a concern for any defence, and he's agile enough to give a v good hip and shoulder, just ask Brett Kirk.

Actually, Ottens is in pretty poor form. Mumford smashed him and West on Saturday. Hawkins did nothing more than be a step ladder every time he contested in the centre square.

West may have potential but he has shown less than Blake at the same time in their careers.

So let me get this straight, your argument as follows:

You first said

"I have heard Geelong midfielders comment publicly on how good they find his ruckwork"

when asked for evidence of this you said

"I've heard it said a number of times over the years but no link"

Surely there would be one link at least to back you up? seeing that you said it's happened "a number of times"

"I'm content relying on my memory of events" yet you say I lack stubstance????

Well, excuse me all to hell, it must be right, i'm sorry you've pwned me right there!

Here is a tip though, please don't ever represent someone in a tribunal or somthing similar, I think you might just get laughed at!

It not up to me to provide the evidence you need to believe something. Do your own research.

And yes, petty insults in response to objective evidence - Champion Data statistics - is unequivocally the definition of lacking in substance (or "stubstance" as you so might like to put it).

He (ottens) is not fit, and he is weeks off being fit.
Patience grasshopper

But you said it's what Geelong players have gone on record saying, a number of times, all i'm doing is asking for the evidence or example of them saying it, of got no doubt you believe it, but I think it's a sweeping generalisation that you made, so I called you on it, so asked to see when it's occured. I do my own research on subjects I raise, not on subjects I think are very much phoney.

It's really that simple.

The second part of your post is a moot point, and a deflection because you won't address the first.

There are a ton of things said on radio that I can't provide a link to. What's your point.

I reckon I've heard or read it too. Does it really matter though? Get over yourself.

It's actually even simpler - believe it or don't believe it - I don't care!

It is far from moot, it is actually damning of your view which I'm sure is why you are so keen to dismiss it.

Returning to my original comment - "Blake is a very good tap ruckman" - and objective evidence from Champion Data backs this up. End of story unless you have any evidence to the contrary.

I'm sorry, I didn't relise that Champion data and the Geelong midfielders were the same thing, my mistake

At the end of the day the coach agrees that he does not play the Geelong way and Blake has to learn to do so to get into the team.
If he continues to play the way he does the only way he will play is if we get injuries.

Our coach agrees that there are qualities in his game which are not adequate. I would think Mark understands what he brings to the table better than what we do and it is not enough.

there are 2 distinct camps - and the two will never agree

Which camps are they?
Blake is a great tap ruckman, and his tapwork mean that his spot in the squad is assured because of this. Is a top number 2 ruckman.

Blake can tap to someone, and looks good becuase of the quality of our mids, and is useless around the ground. Gone

I'm not in either of those camps.

Blake IS a great tap ruckman BUT that's not enough to be assured of a spot in the modern 22.

Fair call.

I thought you'd go Haters vs lovers.

And I would have said the Lovers would prefer another option, but there isn't one.
Well this year there is if Hawkins stands up. But if either Hawk or Ottens fall over and Blake isn't available.........we can't win the flag.

How and why would Blake not be available?

He'll be waiting in the twos ready to go if needed.

As long as we all don't forget, Blake is a young man in rucking terms, 24 or 25, and his father didn't hit form until 28 and then blitzed. Mark still has lots of upside and does seem to be slowly improving.

Receiving his coach's support widely in the media only to have it withdrawn publicly 2-3 weeks later the way it was on Sat night is a mixed message that will do nothing for his confidence, which is already fragile.

I'd rather that we had him here WHEN and not if he fully develops. Hawthorn would love to get their hands on him according to some people working for the club. I know there will be plenty who will come out and call him a dud, but he isn't.
