That was a very disappointing display tonight. To lose that game tonight, and also last week against an undermanned Pies was poor. Neither of those sides is anywhere near the level of Geelong, St Kilda and a full-strength Hawthorn. If Carlton lose Judd for any length of time they are toast. So where do we really stand now?
I really thought we had the players to make us at least competitive this year, and we have been compared to last year's hammerings. However, I really question whether the talent we have coming through is really all that we would hope for. In addition, the experienced players we have are just not delivering consistently.
I know that many are is saying that they are young and will improve but if you line up our picks from the last couple of years where would they rank? Compare them to Rioli, Kreuzer, Cotchin, Palmer and others. I just don't think that our up and coming talent is as good as we think they are.
And what about out next tier? Rosa, Butler, Staker, Nicoski? Do other teams envy us for them?
And then there is Kerr. Tag him and teams know he will not have an influence. And that doesn't even take into account those brain explosions like tonight. 3 weeks?
And that leaves Glass and Cox. Coxy wasn't great tonight but without him we would be even worse.
I dread to think what is going to happen next week. I'll be there but....

It's a valid question. Pre-season and each week, we hear about how sharp the boys are looking at training, how such and such a player will make the difference this week.

And then we get a skills display like we saw in the second quarter. The big lumpy girl in the half-time kiddies game hit the target with more regularity than Masten.

There's a line between supporting a team blindly (with blinkers) and supporting them critically (without).

Experience and time. This is the first game i have been able to watch at the ground and i have to start to believe what i have been reading. Watching it on the telly does not compare. This has all been said before though:
Masten will be very good his hands are so clean and will only get better. Ebert is only going to get better great hands pplayed off the half back flank which was different, but will help him learn.
Swift and S. Selwood are getting in the right places often enough. Give these young midfielders another season playing with kerr they will start to read each others games better and know what they are going to do and will be able to get into the right positions for each other. We are playing with a 2nd tier midfield right now yet our backling is still holding up well enough and in my opinion our forward line has never looked better. The delivery is only going to get better.
These players need another season at least before we are pushing but i can understand why people are questioning their development/potential. PLayers like rioli, palmer etc are not the norm you cant expect this type of form from our first year players. Shuey is untried but i think we have a good one. Smith from what i here is a player we need to get on the right track cause we need some players with some more pace.
This young developing midfield has shown us the true colours of some other players i.e nicoski, jones, rosa. They are very good players when in a great team and there is not much we can do about that its nothing agaisnt them cause many afl players are like this but atleast we know where they are at/stand. We need NN in just for the sake of having someone to relieve the pressure of full time ruck duties for cox and from what i have read/ watched on youtube his tackling is ferocious (which we need)
HUnter did not and i struggle to see if he will offer much more this season only 2 marks tonight.
Even though its hard especially cause we are used to success 2011 is when we should be asking questions about our high draft picks.
