GWS' lack of bargaining power? 1 game away from the GF this year and premiership favourites in 2017, they have a lot of bargaining power and companies will want to be with them.
Footy results don't = commercial success.

The tele saying this today:

Cash strapped Brisbane Lions are still owed about $10,000 from 2016’s deal with BLK and must find a sponsor to replace the $150,000 in cash as well as the playing, training gear and merchandise owed for 2017.

The Suns’ have been paid for 2016 but are waiting on training gear and playing strips and have a two-year $400,000 deal at stake.

Both clubs said they had been canvassed by several companies looking to replace BLK and were hopeful 2017’s bottom line would not be affected.

BLK are the major sponsor of the QAFL competition and also sponsor AFL Queensland’s Q Schools Cup.

You really have to question if St Kilda even bothered to canvass the clubs with existing contracts before signing on with BLK, if they signed up knowing this then the people involved should be moved on and if they didn't know they should still be moved on.

The article confirmed later on what we have been talking is true, wrg has been under the pump much of the year, with industry concern when staff were asked to take big pay cuts.

Makes the saints decision def poor

It's almost like they saw the $$$ on the offer and then didn't bother to look at anything else. This isn't like Geelong and COAR where it's completely new albeit backed by Cotton On this is a company that has been around for a while and has a history you can check particularity when as far as anyone knows the Saints motivation was monetary. What good is a better deal on paper if the fulfilment of it is erratic?

My query is that St Kilda stated that they'd work with the administrators and make sure that all the short term gear orders arrived, is there a chance they'll still wear the kits this coming season then move on?

If not how are all the BLK clubs going to broker deals and get templates sorted and then stock delivered while still being able to market the move positively and in time for pre season?

It does seem that the saints are going to wear BLK in 2017. I find that odd. Unless it's nothing more than short term damage control

The way I read the St Kilda press release is that nothing is set beyond anything that has been ordered for the pre-season.

"The club has been working closely with BLK to better ensure no immediate interruption to supply for the team and is confident fans will not face any delays or cancellations due to the news.

The Saints will continue to work with the receivers and the AFL to ensure the club obtains all the apparel and merchandise it has ordered in the short-term."

That doesn't say anything to me that BLK - right now - is definitely going to be our manufacturer for the 2017 season proper.
