Out: Players with value who either don't meet BB and SOS's expectations or we can cover.
In: Lots of gifted kids, starting with bookend forwards and backs.

Plenty of pain to come but the foundations being laid for an exciting and much needed demolition and full rebuild. I expect plenty of mids to be drafted in the National Draft in the next two and three years. Challenging for a flag in 2021.

Very exciting times!

Surely no one could have thought we would complete a rebuild without losing at least one star player along the way. Simply hitting the draft with 1 first round pick each year is not enough for a team that needs to rebuild. So how do you acquire more first round picks? By trading fringe players who hold no value amongst recruiters but do on BigFooty? Nope. Or by letting go a player who holds significant value to another team desperate to improve their premiership chances and who will likely pay overs? Bingo.

Bring in players like Marchbank and Pickett and draft in another 4-5 kids through the AFL draft (nail these picks) and we have set in place a potentially very, very strong team loaded with young talent.

Cripps, Docherty, Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Cuningham, Silvagni, Plowman, Marchbank, Sumner, Hrovat?, + 4-5 kids (preferably mids) this year.

Don't lose hope fellow wonderful Blues fans. There is a promising future laying ahead if only we pass through the hard times first.

Next year we can chase Fyfe hard as a free agent without trading draft picks for him and without sacrificing list balance (and no, getting him would not be going back to our old messiah complex ways). That would just be smart list management. Would mean we could grab him and still hit the draft again next year or possibly offer our first pick and some for Shiel as well. Lots of possibilities to play out. Exciting times ahead.

MMM..... The force is strong in this one.

I'd take 13 and Harry Dear from Adelaide for Gibbs... maybe Lyons as well.

I'd take Guthrie for Tuohy... straight swap (and Guthrie is a Carlton boy so expect him to play like Doc if we get him!)

I'd send pick 13 to GWS for Marchbank, Stewart, Pickett, A. Kennedy and Barrett.

Stewart and Dear up forward with Pickett roving at their feet, Marchbank down back with Kennedy, Guthrie and Barrett in the middle.

Gibbs covered by Guthrie.
Tuohy covered by A. Kennedy.
Barrett to act as cover for Murphy.

Tall forwards galore with some smalls and the final piece of our defence in place! I can see 6-10 wins next year :D

Listening to a Dane Swan interview on Trade Radio today and he said a very interesting and insightful thing (I was as shocked as you probably are reading that last sentence). He said that you need a core group of 15 to 20 similar aged players to all play about 100 games with each other. During that time you all learn to read each others moves and preferences and viola! You start playing together as a team, playing as one.

I believe that this is exactly what BB and SOS are looking to do. Recruit a new (free from the psychological baggage and bad habits of past regimes) team of young good to great players all within a 4 or 5 year age bracket. Keep a few experienced heads on each line that are all heart and give 110% (Simmo, Ed Curnow, Murph, maybe Kreuzer) for leadership and mentoring.

As the Dogs have shown this year, you don't need a team of superstars, nor do you need a team of first round draft picks. A big rebuild, team-first footy, play to a plan, and have a few stars and a few old heads.

Apart from Fyfe, who else is a possibility to grab as a FA? We really need to load up with about 3 quality FA's (midfielders) next year.

Strap in, folks. SOS isn't here to **** spiders.

Although the loping, lanky, elastic Silvagni style, sticky fingers and vice like tackles ... are we sure?

We should be pushing hard for Wayne Milera. Young first round pick. Milera + 13.

AFC might not need him while they have Cameron and Betts, so he is arguably excess in the coming 1-2 years.

AFC won't want to lose mids like Crouch as it defeats the point of getting Gibbs.

Pickett and Milera at the feet of McKay, Curnow and maybe Stewart, with SOJ. Then joined by Kerr, and eventually Ben Silvagni.

We then have our forward line and backline and can spend the next 2 years in the draft, trading period and FA loading up on mids.
