Wc arent worse because of the Mitchell trade though. They are worse in general. Mitchell was BOG in more than one game this year.

Another key thing to note is that Mitchell has only missed 10 weeks of football in 6 years. It probably reads more favourably if I go further back.

Probably not bluemour worthy, but my boss was chatting to a Carlton assistant coach's wife on the weekend.

Paraphrasing a 2nd-hand conversation here, but she said something along the lines of....

'The fans and media might be happy with Carlton this year, but Bolton isn't'.

My boss didn't delve too deep, but he left the conversation with the impression that 'Bolton is a hardass and doesn't take too kindly to losing'.

We know the rebuild is going to take time and there's going to be some pain along the way, but Bolts isn't sitting back, making excuses and saying 'we'll be right in a few years'. He wants to win, and he wants to win now (as much as we can). Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but good to hear nonetheless.
Not really that surprising surely?

Coaches get paid for results. They want to win each week just like the players. It kills everyone ending up last or close to once again.

Sure we can look at the positives for the season but we can't be happy about the way things are going till we start making some serious improvement up the ladder.

Sorry mate, cant agree with this..McVeigh was awesome on Friday nite whereas Simmo has been struggling for awhile
Ok, from now on I'm just posting this everytime someone jumps up with something about Simmo's form:

And this one for McVeigh:

So what you're saying is McVeigh would better allow the kids like Williamson to build up their time on ground? :p
No he is posting an irrelevant statistic.- because based on Simpson's current form - meaning the last two months - I wish he had only played 70% on field.

If Simmo retires and McVeigh comes in to replace I think you'll then fully appreciate what Simmo does.

The swans are flying at the moment, and if not for Hawthorn who are also rans this year, they'd be on a 13 win streak.

Put Simmo into that team and he'd be All Australian

Had a conversation at the local footy with a lad that knows Harry Perryman at GWS and even though he has signed he is apparently unhappy at being in and out if the side and is very open to joining his ex GWS teammates at Carlton if something could be facilitated.

Given he is a first year player, wouldn't have thought he would have forged any relationships with any of our guys apart from Macreadie?

The McVeigh talk sounds good in theory but it hasn't worked so well in practice for Melbourne or West Coast with Lewis and Mitchell.

I don't necessarily agree. The 1 year playing was not the main reason for Sam Mitchell's 4 year deal.
Unless they won the flag the playing component was probably always going to be considered a bit of a failure. The indirect benefits that come from his coaching & leadership are what will give the deal meaning. Such benefits are difficult to measure externally & may not have actually started to surface yet. SOS followed a similar model at GWS when he had a young list. He surrounded them with players like Luke Power, Chad Cornes & Dean Brogan who were all a long way past their prime.

Off to the youtube machine!!!

Getting a bit ridiculous having 1st year players being unhappy about being in and out of the team.
I think GWS is a bit of a special case though.

You could end up spending years in the twos simply due to the talent of their list.

Players today aren't coming in real young either. If you get stuck playing twos you could be 21-22 by the time you manage to get your career started and with the way footy is your career can end up being short lived.

Also, he got drafted less than 12 months ago.

Even setting aside GWS's super midfield, how many kids would break into a 'normal' side and stay there in their first year.

Seems a bit precocious to be getting antsy at selection. Although we don't know the full story, of course...

I could take or leave McVeigh on ground, although plenty on here would be amazed at what his vision
and disposal could bring, even with 60% game time.
If it served to bring his experience, leadership and intel from arguably the most resilient team of the last
couple of decades, then I am all for it.

I thought it was interesting and thought "another gws boy to the blues, how different!"

Perryman - ex GWS teammates at Carlton?? Wasnt he only drafted last year? Or was it this year?

Real close with Marchy and Pickett is he?

Or maybe he's just super close to Kelly
Academy kid, played NEAFL etc. Would be mates with Macreadie, fellow country boy, and would
know the other recent GWS acquisitions.

Tell him to bring his Collingullie mate with him and Kelly, and I would be very happy.

Agree but I think the amount of players that have left and have done okay elsewhere probably has a fair bit of influence on these kids.
